Hm. Well. One of my favourite authors already wrote Iron Man. That's Warren Ellis - and Extremis happened and was part of getting me into Iron Man ;) So that's not a good answer, so here's another one.
Roger Zelazny. One of my all-time favourite authors of fiction of any kind. Sadly, he's also dead, which complicates matters, but let's not dwell on realities ;) I think he would write a wicked Tony; he had a talent for planners, schemers, for the slightly (and sometimes very) anti-heroic hero. Which also means he'd be crap at writing Steve, at least as a main character. But as a supporting cast I think he would have done all right with him as well. I bet we would get a great story, told in measured language, with layers of stuff to unravel gradually.
And now I'm of course thinking of other writers and what they would be like.
