I think part of it is that - in Western fandoms - all the canon material is in English. Switching to thinking about it in my native language is weird, to say the least. And then all my friends are from abroad, so I use English to both consume canon and talk about it - and it is kind of a specific dialect, in a way? Translating it is more effor than it's worth and it doesn't come natural to me. And that's not starting on how tiny non-English parts of fandom are.

(I also can't talk about comp sci in anything that's not English, because the vocab just doesn't exist :P You end up copying English words anyway. Similar issue.)

I agree with all of this :)

Although I've watched shows dubbed, but I still didn't feel like writing in other language than the original one.But as you say, there's the interaction with fellow fan, too. Easier to go directly to English!

For me there's also the issue of writing. If I'm reading/watching something that I want to write fic in, I want the original version, so that I know the characters' voices and can make them sound natural in my own writing. I watched AA with Polish dubbing once (they showed some eps in cinemas!) and it sounded so weird.

Obviously the fun starts when you meet someone from your own country and go "oops, I can't fangirl in my native language" :P
