Both of your favorite moments are excellent! The Hickmanvengers one is pretty bittersweet though, because the first 3 Avengers issues came out and the fandom was euphoric...before the mindwipe reveal in NA#3.

I adore Ults! And Valtyr's Ults fic is excellent. I actually read all of them before I read Ults and loved them already, and then I actually read Ults, went back, and went WOW, her fic is absolutely on-point character-wise. I love Steve in Emperor's Fury sooo much, hehe. Ults!Steve in general is such a treasure. A very problematic treasure who would snap when disturbed, but a treasure nonetheless.

Good luck with exams!

It's very bitter sweet, I was devastated when I finally learned about mind wipe, the bad feelings were slightly lessened by the fantastic art in that run.

I did as well, I've just started slowly collecting Ults issues and the more I read the more I marvel about how good she captures them both ( I will say a lot of Ults! writers tend to do a pretty great job with them both) I think reading fic before the comics made the characters a lot more easy to like, because you get a lot more internal monologue in fic to explain them being tools.
Emperors fury steve is lovely, especially when he starts to do things he really wants ( and him being a badass during the combat trails was pretty great too)

And thank you for the luck, I'm gonna need it!

I find your Ults opinions really interesting! I actually thought that Ults Steve was more likeable in canon than what I expected from fanfic. He seemed less angry and more sullen, poor guy.

I love Emperor's Fury Steve because he's so grumpy and resigned to just...existence and you're right, he gets so sweet when he finally starts going after what'd make him haaaapy. Steeeeeeeeve.

Aha thank you, from what I've got to so far he may be less angry, but damn he's more melodramatic in the comics ( Mr "you should have left me in the ice" geez steve). So yeah, less angry and more just outright grouchy. Fic certainly made tony easier to love, because, at least where I'm at, you're not getting a lot of Genuine tony, its still very press smiles and sleazy comments. Fic is far quicker to show you a softer side, or at least put the "fuck it I'm gonna die anyway" reasoning into his actions. But, like I said I'm very very early in the series, still in set ups and introduction territory, so how I feel about it might change, especially since I know that tony's character can depend entirely on the Comic Writer (I.e Bendis vs Spencer in 616 can be VASTLY different at times)

EF steve and his general reluctance to let tony near him at the beginning is always sort of hilarious, he's so 'ew rich people' before going straight to '... maybe not'. Oh and the ending, I just- I can't its so lovely. Steeeeeve, precious boy.
I... may need to go re read some things now

I think that Tony really shines when he's on his own so like, Ultimate Armor Wars and vol 5. I feel you though, I was complaining about how Tony was basically a side character for half the verse haha. Hmmm, characterization-wise, I think that Millar's Tony is VERY quippy and constantly makes pop-culture references, but later Tonys lean more on darker humor (so closer to 616, tbh). But they're not too radically different, IMO.

Ooo, I can't wait for that then, I've been looking forward to meeting and getting interactions around Greg, because who doesn't want to meet tony's morally corrupt -Daniel Craig esq- evil twin?
And yeah Tony does feel a bit like a side character, they sit him firmly in the 'team benefactor' slot away from the team itself, and so you don't really get him as 'one of the ultimates'. I'll have to pick up some of the lone volumes (I've been focusing on the main "the Ultimates" run because its what I've been able to find so far)

It's good to hear he's one of the more witty Tony's, One of the biggest writer problems I've had with Tony is some of them seem to struggle with distinguishing "man who likes to charm women" and "straight up misogynist". That and some of them really like to use other characters to hate on him who likely wouldn't do so (*cough cough* Spencer *cough cough*)

While Ults has the most confusing naming system ever (why are all of these called "The Ultimates"???) it still has a chronological order, so the lone stuff w/ Tony comes later in the timeline (I think Ult Armor Wars comes after Ultimatum? Which no one should subject themselves to.....).

I get what you mean. Like, there's a reason Tony's popular with women and it's not just because he's rich and handsome. He's a charmer and good at people!

I found one guide to chronological reading and I was still confused afterwards, but that really is the nature of marvel comics I guess, especially when is comes to tie ins.
Yeah! He's a charming bastard when he wants to be, and he certainly isn't one to demean women, or hit on them when they clearly haven't shown any interest. He's an occasional womaniser but not a jackass, and people don't just sleep with him for his money.
