Thank you! Steve's a very hard character for me to write because he CAN be self aware, he's not dumb-- but he can be heavily emotionally constipated and often, his anger doesn't allow him to be self-aware. I think he's someone who takes a long time to digest his feelings and thoughts and reaches self-awareness after a lot of inner examination, and that's something that happens when he has cooled down (and boy, does it take a while before he gets to that level.)
