Community Gifts Prompt Submissions and FAQ

A year has passed and it is time for Community Gifts again!
Community Gifts prompt submissions are now open and will close on October 31st.
During this time, anyone can anonymously submit Steve/Tony prompts using the submission form.
The list of the submitted prompts will be posted on November 2nd. Any fills that are posted to the 2017 Holiday Exchange collection by December 25th, will be revealed and promoted as part of the exchange collection. These fills are to be considered as gifts to the Cap/IronMan community instead of to any individual.
There is no sign-up required to participate in Community Gifts, and you don’t have to commit to creating a gift in order to submit a prompt. This does mean that, unlike the main exchange, any submitted community gift prompts are not guaranteed to receive a fill.
Once the prompts are revealed on November 2nd, every prompt can be filled by anyone interested.
You don’t have to take part in the main Holiday Exchange to submit or create Community Gifts.
October 17th: Community Gifts prompt collection begins
October 31st: Community Gifts prompting closes
November 2nd: List of Community Gift prompts posted
December 25th: Community Gifts due (for inclusion in the main exchange collection)
December 26th: Community Gifts are revealed along with other entries in the main exchange
January 6th (approximate): Creators of Community Gifts are revealed along with main exchange creators
- Text prompts can be either as short as a simple phrase, or as long as two paragraphs.
- Prompts can also be things like links to images, poetry, and music
- Prompts cannot be fanworks.
- You can submit multiple prompts. Each should be a separate submission.
- This is a gift for the Cap-Ironman Community, so the prompts should be about Steve and Tony. In compliance with the community's event rules, non-Steve/Tony relationships or moresomes involving other characters are not allowed as focus of prompts or fills.
- All ratings are welcome for both prompts and fills, but please mark NSFW prompts with [NSFW] before the prompt.
- Only one option can be selected for Canon. There are two options that aren’t specific canons. The “Other” option which is used to write in canons not listed or crossovers, and the “AU” option.
- Gifts should be new and created solely for the 2017 Cap-Ironman Community Gifts, and not for any other fandom event.
- Gifts can be fics, art, poetry, music, fanvids, or any other type of fanwork.
- If you are a participant in the exchange, we ask that you complete your exchange gift before creating a community gift.

Q. I’m new. What is this?
A. It is the annual gift giving event run in tandem with the Holiday Exchange. It is a way for participants to give gifts to the community without the pressure or commitment of the Holiday Exchange. Prompts are collected anonymously from anyone who wants to submit one, and after they’re published, everyone is welcome to fill them.
Q. Is there an event tag I can follow on tumblr?
A. Yes, we’ll be tagging all event posts with #capimexchange.
Q. I want to do gen friendship, is that okay?
A. Sure. This comm also welcomes fanworks that focus on a non-slashy relationship between Steve and Tony, as long as the focus is on the two of them.
Q. Can I request a ‘create fic for my art/art for my fic’ prompt, like the optional prompt in the main Exchange?
A. No, fanworks are not accepted as prompts, even if you are the creator. Please keep your prompt anonymous.
Q.Can I submit a prompt from another event and/or community?
A. Yes, as long as that event or community doesn’t have rules against it.
Can I submit a prompt that requests a specific type of fanwork?
A. Yes, but there is no requirement for participants to stick to the prompts and no guarantee it will be filled.
Q, Oh no! I made a mistake in my prompt but accidently already submitted it! Is there any way I can fix it?
A. No, due to the nature of the prompts being anonymous there is no way to tell who submitted which prompt. Please make sure to check over your prompt for mistakes before you submit it. If you think you really messed it up, you can submit a corrected version of the prompt the same way you’d submit a new prompt.
Q. Can I sign up to be a pinch hitter?
A. While the Holiday Exchange needs pinch hitters, Community Gifts does not. Feel free to fill any prompt you want. For more information about being a pinch hitter for the Holiday Exchange check out the Holiday Exchange FAQ.
Q. Do I need an Ao3 account to participate?
A. Submitting prompts does not require an Ao3 account. You can fill out the prompt submission form without logging on to any account.
If you want to submit your gift to the collection, an Ao3 account is required. If you do not have one you can request an AO3 invite here. It can take weeks, so If you think you might want to participate and need an account, request an invitation now!
Q. How do I submit my fill?
A. Instructions on this will be supplied with the prompt list on November 2nd.
Q. Can we discuss our Community Gift prompts or fills on IRC, Discord, or any other chat?
A.Feel free to discuss the prompts in general, but try not to give away if you’re creating something! Guessing the creators is half the fun :)
Q. If I create a Community Gift, do I have to adhere strictly to the prompt I picked?
A. No. Because the fills are meant to be gifts to the community, instead of gifts to a specific person, you can deviate from a community prompt as much as you’d like as long as it adheres to the rules above. Please note that this is different from the main Exchange, where you should adhere to your recipient’s prompt.
Q. My friend is making a fill for a prompt I want to fill too! Can I still submit mine?
A. Sure, every prompt can be filled multiple times!
Q. I defaulted on another event and am not eligible to participate in this year’s Holiday Exchange. Can I still participate in Community Gifts?
A. Yes. Since there’s no commitment in advance, everyone is eligible to participate in Community Gifts, both by submitting prompts and/or by creating gifts to fill prompts.
Q. Can I post my gift (that I created) to tumblr?
A. Of course, but only after we reveal creators around January 6th. Please tag it with #capimexchange so we can see and reblog it.
Q. Can I have an extension?
A. Please email us with the specifics at cap.im.events@gmail.com with the subject ‘Holiday Exchange-Community Gifts’.
Q. I’m participating in the exchange as well. Will prompts from my Exchange sign-up request be shown in the list of Community Prompts?
A. No. Only prompts specifically submitted to the community prompt pool will be included in the community prompts. Exchange requests will be seen only by the mods and your gift creator.
Q. I’m participating in the exchange as well. Can I submit one of my own prompts from my exchange requests to the list of Community Prompts?
A. No, please let your gift-creator have first shot at all prompts from your letter. You can submit prompts from previous years if you are not repeating them in this year’s letter.
Q. I’m participating in the exchange as well. I like more than one of the prompts in the request letter of the person I was assigned to. Can I submit the ones I’m not creating a fan work for?
A. Please don’t, as that spoils the surprise for your recipient of which of their prompts you’ll be creating for. If you like multiple prompts of theirs, you are welcome to provide your recipient with multiple gifts.
Q. When will my submission be revealed?
A. Prompts will stay anonymous and be posted in a list to the public on November 2nd.
Community Gifts will be revealed in daily batches with the Holiday Exchange fills starting December 26th. Please be patient: all works will be revealed within the reveals period. Community Gift creators will be revealed together with the exchange creators around January 6th .
Q. I have a question that hasn't been answered here.
A. Email us at cap.im.events@gmail.com, send the cap-ironman tumblr an ask, or leave a comment on this post.
