2017 Cap-Ironman Exchange Gifts unveiled on January 3rd

It’s another day of reveals! Each day we will be revealing the gifts created by participants of the 2017 Cap-Ironman Holiday Exchange and Community Gifts. Over the next days the creators’ identities will be hidden. On January 7th, we will reveal all of the creators who participated this year.

Thinking about signing up for Remix Exchange but not sure exactly what you’re getting into?

For those of you not as familiar with the “remixing” of fanworks, we’d like to provide some examples of what’s possible in remixing, and, hopefully, get you excited to try your hand at it. Think of a remix as an evolution of a pre-existing story or piece of art. Some common remix “evolutions” include:

• switching POV

• changing the tone/mood

• adding or subtracting thematic elements of the original

• using flashbacks or jumping forward in time

• writing or drawing a set-up to the original plot, or an epilogue

• transplanting the work into a new universe

• writing a timestamp or a missing scene

• Expand backstory mentioned/touched upon in the original

• Manipulate time - speed up or slow down the narrative.

Love the premise of a story but wish it had been set in your favorite verse? Rewrite it that way!

Original fic written from Steve’s point of view? Change it up and write it from Tony’s to give us a different perspective on the narrative. Love the fic, don’t love the angst? Take it upon yourself to lighten the mood! Desperate to know what happened between our men offscreen? Show us!

Thirsty for a follow-up? Epilogue. Rich untapped backstory? Mine it for gold and show us how our heroes became who they are in the original fic. Matched with the slowest of slow burn romances? Speed it up and get to the kissing faster. :)

This is by no means an exhaustive list of remix parameters. That’s the beauty of the remix: the sky’s the limit. Find more theoretical remix strategies in our Remix How-To Post.
