Canada Day
Tony and Steve talk about Canada day
rating:pg-13
Done for a prompt by Crimsonquills
So why exactly are we here again?" Tony watched the flickering flame of parliament hill from the hotel window next to Steve, their shoulders almost touching.
" It is like I told Ironman. I knew some Canadians in the war and I wanted to see Canada day. When I was still a kid it was called Dominion day and the celebrations were nothing like it is supposed to be today. I hear it is mainly to do with how they handled themselves in the war." Steve said a look of fond reminiscence on his face.
" Really?" he prodded, already having heard part of this as Ironman but never tiring of hearing Steve talk.
" Yeah, they were good people from what I remember. They definitely distinguished themselves from being just a cold extension of England."
"What were the ones you knew like?" Tony was curious about this 'life' of Steve's before he fell into their arms- the Avengers that is.
" Tough SOB's." Steve said with no small amount of affection.
" Did you just swear?" Tony asked agape.
"No, I used an acronym that stands in for profanity. I did serve with the Howling commandos on occasion you realize? I mean Fury alone never seems to stop swearing. I know you have limited experience with them, but your bodyguard has met with them on more than one occasion and could confirm that for you." Steve answered primly, tapping his fingers against the glass of the window.
He could have afforded two separate rooms, in a way it would have been safer but as he looked at the double beds held apart by only a small bedside table, he liked the idea of sharing with Steve. It was risky, yes. Steve could catch him charging his chestplate, or his shirt may snag in the blankets and expose him in his sleep. Steve might accidently walk in on him changing or getting out of the shower. He may hear the whirr that to Tony felt was ever present. It was almost like he wanted to be caught by Steve.
He realized he ought to answer Steve before he got suspicious. "Ha, no need. I think I've heard a thing or two about them. Anyways, I hear there is a carnival tomorrow before the fireworks. We better sleep so we can see it all." He patted the bed to indicate his meaning.
" Cotton candy, and the ferris wheel too?" Steve said with an impish smile.
"Anything for you." he replied in turn, keeping the boyish mischief clear.
" Thank you, Tony Stark you are a good man. Good Night." Steve headed away from the window and into his bed.
Tony watched Steve flick off the light and almost instantly fall asleep cradled within the covers and felt a faint pang as he watched Steve's chest rise and fall easily. He slipped out of bed and over to the outlet and whispered as his chest whirred faintly;
"See you in the morning."
