This was the most perfect possible kick off to the Alphabet challenge. :-) :-)
It's interesting, but the first one made me think of how easy it is to forget that Steve is such a city kid, sometimes. Probably because the stereotypical image of a city kid is jaded and street smart, and Steve comes across more as idealistic and, sometimes, maybe even a bit naive. But I love that he is a city kid, and that something doesn't have to picture perfect to be worth loving and protecting, and that "progress" isn't a dirty word. (Oooh, I have had sociology classes that have pissed me off, yes I have. *g*)
The armor has no blueprints, no written design specs; all of the planning takes place inside Tony's head
*loves* This is one difference between movie and comics verse that occasionally makes me wistful in movie-verse fics, even if it's not really a problem for me. I love the fact that comics!Tony can build complete working prototypes straight out of his head.
All of his weaknesses and flaws are hidden behind red and gold metal and some of the finest tech ever built
*hugs Tony*
His country's colors didn't feel as much like armor after that.
*hugs Steve now* I almost wish we could see our heroes lose a battle here and there, now and then. Not in a Epic, Dramatic, Change-the-Marvel-Universe kind of way. Just...part of the constant struggle. Sometimes I think those moments are the most important ones, when it comes to character.
He should have taken Steve up on the invitation to spend New Years at the Avengers Mansion.
Yes, he should have. He could still ring in the new year with a kiss. *g*
Kissing Steve, whose mouth would probably be more electrifying than the most high-proof whisky, and smoother than expensive cognac. And who was straight, currently involved with some pretty lawyer, and would never have allowed Tony to cheat on Rumiko with him even if he'd been gay and unattached. Even if Tony would actually have had the nerve to try.
Awww. Poor Tony. *g*
Reforming the Avengers, he decided some time later, as he lay on the couch with his cheek against the scarred center of Tony's chest, was one of the best ideas he'd ever had.
*melts* So sweet. In more than one sense. :-)
A is for Alive
Poor Steve, coming back only to find himself in the middle of an invasion. Poor everyone; Marvel canon is so harsh for them all right now. But I did love the idea of Hank and Jarvis staging an uprising. *g*
and Mockingbird, who might not actually be Bobbi and might not actually be human, but Tony didn't mind if Clint didn't
Heh. Is this bit about Mockingbird canon or your own invention? *curious* Either way, it made me laugh, because yeah, I can see Clint doing that. *g*
"You want to do the honors, Mr. Living Legend?" Tony asked
*hearts*
Tony had cried the first time he'd seen it, had buried his face in Steve's flat, freshly scarred stomach and shaken with the force of his relief, at the tangible proof that this was Steve, his Steve, instead of a clone or an alien copy.
This is somehow painful and romantic as the same time. *aches for them*

And, of course, the perfect ending!
