Cap_Ironman Weekly News, Week Ending 3 July 2011

I am behind on everything this week, and GDocs has graduated to crashing my browser, so a very quick newsletter! But as it's late it's now Steve's birthday, so happy Fourth of July to all.

We have a couple of 4th July posts, where people swap pictures of cakes and slushies.

We also have a post celebrating same-sex marriage being legalised in New York, with fic by [livejournal.com profile] garrideb, fic by [livejournal.com profile] ficbypen, art by [livejournal.com profile] taiyou_to_tsuki, fic of that art by [livejournal.com profile] brummel, two fics by [livejournal.com profile] cookinguptales, two fics by me, and fic by [livejournal.com profile] tsukinofaerii.

Why not go add some marriage or freedom fic to one of these posts?

We also have a discussion on the nature of repulsor burns started by [livejournal.com profile] shariangel. Yay for SCIENCE!

And [livejournal.com profile] dangwhyme has drawn more delightful art.

Finally, if you're a new or recent member, hello and welcome! Our rules are here, and in the profile; this includes our warnings policy, so please read. If you're interested in the ship, you may want to read the Ship Manifesto, and consult the list of Slashy Moments. If you're planning to write for the comm, there are some tips on writing the pairing here, and the Avengers in general here; if you're having trouble finding a beta, or would like to offer your services as a beta, our beta list is here. If you're looking for the comm archive, it's Tales of Suspense, and it's automated - you can create an account and upload your fic. If you're looking for a particular story, why not try [livejournal.com profile] cap_im_finders? If you have any questions, you can comment here or PM a mod, that's me, [personal profile] muccamukk, or [personal profile] garrideb

And feel free to post on-topic or off-topic stuff in the comments to this post! Just keep it reasonably safe for work, please.

Happy Birthday, Steve!

My wip has proceeded to over 20K. It's the first time I dare to have vague hope of it reaching 25K. There're suspiciously a number of descriptions of food.

By the way, I'm very curious what you all're working on. Mine's Ult, with Steve finding that his discovery in an alien city would have consequence. What about yours?

Heh, gdocs

I think we're done professionally, gdocs and I. I've been reduced to writing fanfic in email, and wondering what the hell google plus is and if it has a keen word programme (or poking at my gwave. Help me, valtyr).

Happy July 04!

Oy, schrivener. It's nice, it really is, but I really just write stuff for fills, and if I do plot, it's relatively simple ("See Steve run. Run, Steve, run!""). Simple.

Man, usb sticks? I just can't. The last time I used a usb stick they were erm... one gig and kinda big? Do you have any small one? In terms of recs, I mean?

Seriously, I've just been writing stories in my email draft and emailing them to myself.

Anyway, my cuts are bleeding again (WTF? Mallorca?). I swear, Spain and I are done professionally after this. PROFESSIONALLY!

How goes your writing then? I think I'm best suited to sitting down and plowing through this fic, but woe, it won't be twenty five k, v. WOE.

CHILE! I fell off a cliff

[personal profile] jazzypom 2011-07-04 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
We were following the stupid guide book that took us on a path (we were hiking between two towns), a mist came up and swamped us and I fell OFF a cliff! So, I've twisted my ankle, skinned my palms, bloodied and tore the only pair of jeans I have. There's blood on my jeans, in my shoes. The map in the guidebook neglected the cliffs. Honestly. Next time, I'm checking googlemaps.

Yeah, I'm eyeing dropbox myself. It honestly can't be worse than what I'm doing now. I'm back to pencil and quadrilled sheets, y'all. That ain't right for anybody. LOLz.

Wow! I hope your ankle gets better. Cliffs are no good.

I used to write in pencil at work. In tiny tiny printing so no one could read it.

Dude, I didn't even know I was falling until there wasn't ground. One minute, ground, the next- air. In addition it was misty (3000 feet above sea level) and fell. I'm not ready for Spain, y'all. My body isn't ready.

D: pen and paper? We are heading back to the dark ages. Soon you will send to beta via carrier pigeon.

Hah I'm looking at 'thumb drives' now. 8 gig? Hahahah wowow.

Hmmm, tiny tiny printing. Yeah, that makes sense. I have an okay phone, so I tend to type stuff under 'notes' or do odd little snippets on tape so I can type when I have time.

My ankle is just really sore, and my knee is scabbing over. Success! But I don't think I can do the six mile hike tomorrow like we planned.

First off, I just saw this and wanted to share because it made me go d'awww.

From this most excellent artist!

I am trying to get revved up to write the fic I promised with the magic mushrooms where Steve gets hilariously stoned, but motivation is hard to come by? Maybe because life is in the process of kicking my ass. I am going to try to write the fight scene tonight, that should get things moving plus I'll be able to fling botany terms around which is always fun.

In non-fandom news, I find that I will have to submit a writing sample for a job I'm planning to apply for, which fills me with a surprising amount of dread. Has anyone done this here? Suggestions? Should I go with my original plan of drinking enough cocktails to take the edge off, then go back and edit when I'm sober?
