Cap_Ironman Weekly News, Week Ending 17 July 2011

A Few Comm Rules Reminders:
1. Advertisements for other comms and events must be checked with one of the mods before they are posted.
2. Please remember that not everyone will get to see the Cap film on the opening weekend, or even within the next few months, depending on the country and circumstances. Mark, cut and warn for any and all film spoilers. Please, and thank you.

That said, hello and welcome to the weekly [livejournal.com profile] cap_ironman/[community profile] cap_ironman newsletter.

This is your Mod. This is your Mod on screech. Sadly, this mod shall not be doing a comprehensive round up of all 5,273 Cap movie articles currently available online, though she does think the "Art Of Captain America" With Ryan Meinerding is pretty damn skookum. Marvel is also giving a free Cap comic to US troops, which is pretty decent of them.

While Steve is riding his movie high, over in Iron Man #506, Tony doesn't seem to be doing so great, at least not according to this preview here. Poor Tony. Avoid, screech, Tony; screech is bad.

Oh, and apparently the kink meme folks are just so darn excited they're starting early. Check out [livejournal.com profile] capkink for all your porny needs.

[livejournal.com profile] fancy_galloway wrote A Couple Called Stoney
[livejournal.com profile] manic_intent posted links to three new Cap film clips, including Heroic!Steve and BAMF!Peggy
[livejournal.com profile] savemoony thinks that context is for the weak. I am inclined to agree.
[livejournal.com profile] derryderrydown has cleverly crafted some Steve/Tony fan art.
[livejournal.com profile] tvjunky451 posted an excerpt of an interview wherein Chris Evans fanboys the hell out of RDJ.

Finally, if you're a new or recent member, hello and welcome! Our rules are here, and in the profile; this includes our warnings policy, so please read. If you're interested in the ship, you may want to read the Ship Manifesto, and consult the list of Slashy Moments (Now at one hundred and fifty moments). If you're planning to write for the comm, there are some tips on writing the pairing here, and the Avengers in general here; if you're having trouble finding a beta, or would like to offer your services as a beta, our beta list is here. If you're looking for the comm archive, it's Tales of Suspense, and it's automated - you can create an account and upload your fic. If you're looking for a particular story, why not try [livejournal.com profile] cap_im_finders? If you have any questions, you can comment here or PM a mod, that's me, [personal profile] garrideb and [personal profile] valtyr.

And feel free to post on-topic or off-topic stuff in the comments to this post! Just keep it reasonably safe for work, please.

And.... after checking out the preview for IM #506, I know exactly why I wasn't looking forward to Tony's role in Fear Itself.

I'd really, really love to slap whoever thought that having Tony happily sacrifice his sobriety in order to build bigger weapons was a good plot point. If he didn't cave after Steve's death... Argh. I know it's supposed to be "their worst fears," but this is ridiculous. I'm going to skulk back off to my corner and pretend some more that the last several years of Marvel storylines haven't happened.

I was going to write out a long reply about the idea of Tony 'sacrificing' his sobriety (I have issues with this too) but it got muddled in my head so I'll just say this instead:

Anyone else distracted by all the lights on Tony's armor? A few years ago I knew some video game designers, and they asked our friends to act out sword fights while wearing outfits with strategically placed pingpong balls so they could map out the movements. Every time I see this style of armor I wonder if he's filming himself in 3D or something.

Hey, I might as well beat [personal profile] snowynight to this: What are you all working on? ;-)

I am so close to finishing my damn fanvid. It's like, 75% done. I really wanted to finish it before the Cap movie came out (kind of an arbitrary deadline, whatever) but I think I'll miss that. Anyone know how vid betas might work, and where to find one?

I'll continue to ignore current 616 events. It seems to serve me good.

I'm trying to edit my Ult. fic. And writing werewolf!Steve/mermaid!Tony, In Space. Fandom, you corrupt me.

I guess you can find general vidding community and ask? I guess a vidding beta works by giving suggestion on the technique and use of scene, but I'm not sure.

Wow, werewolf!Steve/mermaid!Tony in space fic must have so much world building involved. That sounds fabulous.

Asking a vidding comm is a good idea. I'll go poke around.

I think what's bugging me about the whole "sacrificing his sobriety" sequence is that it starts off with Tony deliberately setting aside his belief in science and logic as the only things governing the universe, and praying to Odin as an act of faith. That strikes me as a much more meaningful offering, because it represents a genuine shift in Tony's thinking, and is something Odin should actually find valuable.

I'd love to see that actually explored, with Tony realizing that the faith was what mattered and the drinking was unnecessary. And I'd love to see Tony remember that sobriety is a process, not an item you can sacrifice, and that just because he got drunk this once doesn't mean he can't be sober again the next day, and the next, and the next, just as he'd been doing for years since the last time he quit drinking.

But since it's Fraction, I'm not holding my breath.

Unfortunately, in order to engage with IIM enough to write fic for it, I'd have to read a lot more carefully than just skimming the issues in the store.

I liked the angry dwarf too. I keep imagining him breaking the fourth wall to swear at Fraction.

I'm just- yes, this forever. It's sad that I'm glad I don't pay attention to 616 canon.

werewolf!Steve/mermaid!Tony, In Space.

I cannot tell you how much this delights me.
