DoS #32

So Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. #32 came out yesterday, last issue before Rhodey takes over with the Secret Invasion tie in. The last page in the story, I thought, might be relevant to your interests, so I scanned it :D


For the sake context, Tony was talking to an old friend who decided to blow up an entire country because he was tortured by the government. Tony tries to talk him out of it, saying that a lot of innocent people are going to die. The guy response by asking how many people Tony's killed with his actions. Tony replies, "Too many."



I also post this because I have no idea who the kid in the hat is >_> Any hints?




Also, a couple icons for good measure.

The kid in the hat might be Rahimov.

I'm pretty sure the blond guy on the right is Rahimov. They switched artists half way through this arc, so in the flashbacks Rahimov went from being brown-haired to blond.

I think the kid in the hat might be Yinsen's son, who mind-controlled Tony in "Execute: Program" and was shot by a SHIELD sniper while Tony tried to talk him out of his revenge (or at least yelled at him for being whiny *g*). Granted, he doesn't look especially similar, but the age and the clothing are about right...

...except I just checked and Yinsen's son had a hoodie, not a baseball cap, so maybe it isn't him *headdesk*. All the different artists with their individual styles make it very hard to recognise characters you've only seen once or twice - do you think that's why they came up with the idea of the superhero costumes in the first place? So they'd be easy to recognise no matter who was drawing them?

The only other person I could possible think of was maybe Zeke Stane. The guy I go to hasn't actually gotten Invincible Iron Man #4 in yet, so I don't know what the status on little Stane is though :/

Hmmm... I don't think so. The two titles (Fraction's and Director of Shield) seem to almost exist in seperate continuities (this may just be a function of Fraction not being good at tying things into ongoing canon or back-canon and not intentional, though).

My initial thought was Erwin Morely, from late-on in the Obediah Stane storyline in volume one, but Erwin had glasses.

So, yeah, drawing a total blank. Steve is the really important one, obviously, given that he's drawn front & center. Then Rahimov, Sal, and the dead Shield Agents -- though Happy really ought to be there, too (way more than Rumiko, though someone also mentioned her; his death is more recent than hers and he's been in the title since something like the third issue back in '63).

Maybe the skinny unrecognizable guy is the one who turned himself into a living cyborg-weapon-monster?

Wow, if it was Erwin, that'd be a real throw back o_O So would Rumiko, really, though I'd understand why'd she be there. She was his most recent girlfriend that ended in tragedy (unless you count Maya...what happened to her anyways? I'm missing some issues between Haunted and this arc).

The Other Nick is actually down there on the right in the group of living people, so it can't be him.

Happy makes the most sense I suppose. He was a red-head, and so is mystery guy, though I can't imagine Happy ever wearing that outfit.

Plus, Happy's much bigger and broader-faced (not skinny). So, in conclusion, totally stumped.

I only thought of Erwin because seanchai and I have been talking about how much better Fraction's storyline would be if the blast-from-the-past villain were Clytemnestra Morley coming back to seek vengeance/justice for the death of her brother, rather than Stane's Villain-Sue kid with teh l33t hacker skillz - it would tie in nicely with Tony's ongoing guilt/issues over Happy & Sal's deaths, given that Erwin was also a friend of Tony's who died because of his proximity to Tony. And she's not just a computer scientist - she's got close familiarity with Tony's work, so you could have her plausibly cracking Tony's modified Extremis.

Maybe Clytemnestra could hook up with Maya and they could have hot lesbian scientist sex.

XD That would be pretty awesome and be, like the most crazy evil villain(ess) speech ever (Cly: "Oh, Tony, it was as simple as seducing Maya Hanson and making her--" Tony: "Wait, what? *completely distracted by lesbian sex*" Cly: "*sigh* You never change *SMACK*"). I was under the impression Cly was dead though (not that that means anything in comic world).

But for all the complaints I might have about him, I like Zeke -- he's like a less subtle, more psychotic version of his father, and that's saying a lot when your father is Obidiah Stane. Plus he's less about blowing stuff up like a lot of villains and more about completely and utterly destroying Tony's life (starting with The Order and moving to Pepper and whatever's happened in #4 >_>).
