I believe Tony and Ty were childhood friends but Ty slowly went mad. I remember reading that in the original comic they were friends but in later life Ty became obsessed with trying to destroy Tony. So I made Ty obsessed with Tony in the sense he wanted to own him. I also couldn't put more than hints in about Tony's feelings because it was from Steve's POV. Even though Tony and Ty were having a falling out, it would have to be hidden for diplomatic reasons and someone of Steve's standing would've never found out.
