Clint and Tony both being so desperately starved for simple human contact is powerful and sad. And Tony's self-hate is becoming particularly smothering...which is saying something, for Tony.

"He's with Xavier now," Pietro said, answering the unspoken question.

"That must be interesting," Steve said dryly.

"You have no idea."

BWAH! Also, I suspect every Argonian outside the New York shield is quaking in fear. Dear god. Magneto, Charles, Wolverine, Fury...how are any Argonians still functional out there? (Though at least it explains why Magneto hasn't cut loose and killed everything in sight, if he's got Xavier riding herd.)

For that matter, I wonder what's going on in the Baxter Building. You know, when I think about it, I really feel sort of sorry for the poor Argonians. In the long run, they never really stand a chance...and this is just the "normal" superheroes, not the level of forces people like Strange or Doom could bring to bear if they really felt like the planet were threatened. Yet it's a measure of your skill as writers that you create an oppressive level of suspense regardless. The world doesn't need to be at stake, after all, for people and ways of life to be in danger (as Vance's death proved). In fact, it's almost more painful that on one level, you know the outcome is inevitable, but it doesn't free them from having to go through the pain to get there.

Onto other points, I never really have considered the Shocker threatening...but somehow he's more menacing out of costume than in it. I think the quilted mask leaves something to be desired. But I sort of...I mean, is that chemistry between him and Tony? It sort of works, on an angry, cold-blooded level.

Also: oh, no, the Maximoffs! DON'T DO IT, Argonians! It's not worth the pain!
