Of Pizza and Philosophy
Hey guys! I still don't have any fics, fan art or misc goods to contribute yet (my brain is having a bit of blockage...), but some things in my life have greased the wheels and gotten them turning.
*ahem*
Allow me to explain via a very boring anecdote and a random discussion which follows...
I work at Cici's Pizza, an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet for those who have never heard of the franchise. Once every couple of years or so, the corporate office creates a new pizza, and it starts being made in all the little Cici's stores around the country. Our most recent pizza, the Rustic Italian, has gotten an upgrade with some extra toppings. The Rustic has three different versions, but regardless of wether it has pepperoni and sausage or a veggies on it, every time the boss needs on out on the buffet, he calls to the cook,
"I need a Tony, please."
I was greatly amused, and have continued to be amused whenever he calls for one. I have several fellow comic book nerds who work with me, and they like to pick on me for being a Tony fan girl.
I'll tell our main cook, Paul, "Is a Tony coming out?" as in, "coming out of the oven?"
To which my good buddy replies, "Dunno, why don't you ask Cap?"
So it goes.
On ward to the philosophy part of my random post: There's a book out called Ironman and Philsophy, which I recently bought and read, and I was wondering if anyone else has read it? If so, are they enjoying it or did they enjoy it?
I absolutely loved it.
The essays are written smartly with a professional tone, complete with MLA citations and biblographies for each individual piece. All the essays deals with the philosophical and even psychological issues that have emerged from decades of conflicts found in the comics and movies. issues such as can Tony Stark be a genuine superhero along with being an alchoholic womanizer, what kind of moral compass does he have, is he resposible for the death of Captain America, and ultimately what Iron Man can teach us about the role of technology in society. Other topics include:
Can Iron Man's armor actually think?
Is Tony Stark's intelligence the greatest source of Iron Man's power?
Can Iron Man be both a superhero and the corporate property of Stark Industries?
Does the Iron Man technology point the way to a brighter future or a darkening horizon?
The great philosophers of times past - Descartes, Plato, Socrates, Locke, Aristole, and Heidegger - have been brought up and refrenced expertly to the point that it's given me a deeper, well-rounded three-dimensional perspective of the Tony Stark-Iron Man dynamic. I feel it's a gold mine for any Tony Stark fan girl/fan boy, especially if they're wanting to write for the character.
Speaking of which... Reading the philsophy book and my own pizza place experiences has inspired me somewhat to a very small degree...
I want to write full length short story, but I don't have any ideas that have really taken hold of me... except for one of Tony somehow working a pizza joint in New York for reasons unknown (because the plotting part of my brain hasn't gotten that far yet) and Steve walks in to pick up an order and is surprised to see him working there making pizzas. >_< Maybe he's struggling for money? (yeah right) Under cover? (uh-huh) Losing his buisness and adopting a more simplistic life, such as trading in his Lamborgini for a bicycle, mansion for apartment, and fashionable shallow women for a man, and the job at the pizza place is part of that? (WTF?)
So you see my problem. Any ideas, guys, on how I could get this weirdo idea to work? Also, feel free to request some sort of a drabble-ficcy thing. I'm desperate for ideas, and I really do wish to bring something more to this community besides a Tes$ha parody song and a random nobody-really-cares anecodote of my own boring fan-girly escapades.
So there you have it, folks.
