X-Men Forever
After much prodding from
garrideb, I come bearing scans from X-Men Forever. You wouldn't think that an alternate universe X-book has much to do with Steve and Tony, but Tony was part of a major plotline, and a cameo from Steve later on implies some Steve/Tony shippiness on the part of writer Chris Claremont.
I don't actually read all the words in X-Men Forever, for the sake of my sanity. It's a vanity project from Chris Claremont, who is allegedly writing the story he WOULD have told had he not left the X-books in 1991. In actuality, it's just a big ball of crack that bears no resemblance to actual continuity and retcons itself on a monthly basis. Gambit has a different last name for no reason, Wolverine is dead and his claw and personality have transferred to Kitty, Jean and Beast hooked up -- you get the picture.
Anyway, the X-Men were fighting bad guys called the Consortium, with whom Tony Stark was involved. In a climactic issue, we discover that Tony wasn't actually evil; he was trying to bring down the organization from the inside. (I think? Or maybe he didn't know it was evil? I can't remember, honestly.) Anyway, when Tony discovers they ARE evil/he CAN'T bring them down that way, he and Beast sacrifice their lives to save the rest of the X-Men and bring down Consortium once and for all.
So in Giant-Size X-Men Forever #1, we get this page:

Poor Steve. (And poor Hank -- it's hilarious how this explicitly says that Tony is OMG SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT to Steve than any other Avenger.)
These are the two pages that follow:

So, naturally, in the next issue the Avengers, under Steve's command, go to attack the X-Men.

Clearly, logic means nothing to grieving, lovesick Steve Rogers!
Steve hasn't appeared since this issue, to my knowledge; the X-Men escaped, and other bizarre plots have come and gone. As of the most recent issue, Tony may actually be alive again? Or maybe it's a flashback? It's X-Men Forever; nothing really makes sense. But I can't complain about the random shippiness! This is also the comic that comes thisclose to making Logan/Gambit canon, so, you know, I support Claremont's insanity.
