Just in time for V-day. Art: G
Hi guys! *waves* So I'm pretty new to the fandom and pairing, but already falling head over heels in love with it :)
I would contribute art, but me trying to draw anything beyond stick figures would be asking for a disaster. Which is why I commission them from other people *g*
The following Steve/Tony art are all made by/commissioned from the lovely users of GaiaOnline. I haven't been on the site for ages, but since I had a fair bit of virtual currency racked up I figured I might as well put it to some use. And boy, was that an excellent idea ^.^
Universe: Would probably count most of them as MA
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Getting their personalities right is a bit of a hit-and-miss process, especially with the limited info I was able to give the artists, but it's fun seeing different interpretations on the boys.

Indeed.

6. Chibis by soramatsuri.
I love her art. Too freaking cute. >.< Also cheap, so I ordered several xD

She even wrote something for the last one:
Walking in the park...
Tony is not aware Steve is so far away from him...
Tony stopped, looked at Steve.
Tony: ...
Steve: ???
Tony: Your hand... *offers hands*
Steve: Really?! <3!
Haha

This is what she had to say about it: "It's called 'Invading Someone's Mind.' Steve is sleeping and Tony's.. you know what he's thinking. And Steve is having bad vibes about it. LOL!"
And one more from her, this one after I showed her the MA comic panel where they were in the parkon a date and Tony fails at using Steve's shield as a frisbee :P
Cap shows off:

(And no, I don't know what the heck Tony is wearing haha)

9. Sketch by poot-dus
Tony: *pinches Steve's cheek*
Steve: -_-

10. And some pet!Tony & pet!Steve by teunie

And that's all for now, Happy Valentine's Day!
I have some more pieces coming through, so I'll post another batch soon.
On a different note, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to where should I jump in in the comic books? I think I've got a pretty good picture of what happens in the overall canon, but as far as the actual comics go, should I start with 616? Or Ultimates? Avengers/New Avengers? I mean, there's just so much! I don't where to begin...

Actually no. I WANT BOTH.
I love the chibis (so cute!) and 4. is just adorable. xD You totally rock for requesting and posting these. <3

brian michael bendis's new avengers vol 1 would be a good place to start if you want rather shippy goodness. It gets...muddled after civil war, but before is deffinately a fine starting place. I have also heard good things about avengers prime, but I haven't read it yet.
If you want to read Captain America Brubaker's run is epic and amazing. I like matt fraction's current various adjective iron man book, but there are some people who really don't.
I would advise avoiding ultimates because it kind of sucks. It's sort of amusing, but not actually good.
Long comment is long.
I'm sort of a new to comics myself, so just know that the thing with starting is, you might not be able to go way back, so just start from a decent place and jump back when you have the time (or the money; such an expensive hobby, comic books). Ultimates is fine, as long as you realize it's not 616 canon. (Granted, I've only read the first four volumes, so I can't vouch for past that, although I've heard negative things.) But the movies are heavily influenced by Ultimates, so it's not a bad start for a general introduction. I know people will disagree, but it was the first Avengers-esque thing I read, and I was fine with picking up 616 stuff. (Outside of Tony drinking, Steve being a bit more of an ass, the only other big changes relate to Bucky and Black Widow... and Nicky Fury now looks like Sam Jakcson). Ultimates is also worth it alone for the dig at Roberty Downey Jr. The irony, it burnses.
Lots of people will tell you to ignore Civil War too, but I think it's important -- and you may see it differently since you're a fan of both Tony and Steve (or might be able to see certain sides of the argument). Things can be a bit OOC because the characters are more archetypes than anything else... but it's sort of pivotal to the universe -- for good or bad -- so give it a shot.
If it helps, this is the general order of what I started reading (note: I'm more on the Iron Man side of things):
New Avengers... which transitions into Civil War, so you gotta know where to stop before switching over. (I want to say it's around issue 21. So up to 20 you should be fine.)
Read Iron Man's Extremis arc (it's actually the first IM story I read), then Execute Program is pretty good (Tony sacrifices himself for Steve). Cap's Winter Soldier arc starts somewhere in here too, and that's a good one.
Basically, because New Avengers, Extremis and Winter Soldier all sort of take place in the same time frame, you can read whichever you choose. Extremis and WS are more standalone for each character, so you can always read those, and move back to New Avengers if it's less confusing. (Or just go for New Avengers and know that Tony might suddenly have a new suit/powers, or Bucky's mentioned, etc.)
Next would be Civil War; Civil War: Iron Man (heavily into Steve/Tony) and Civil War: Fallen Son (just more reactions to Steve's death).
Since you know what happens, it shouldn't be too confusing for you to jump right in (or if there are gaps).

Yeah, I've heard both good and bad things about Ultimates *is apprehensive*
I love that you think it's kind of amusing because it's bad xD
Re: Long comment is long.
That's cool that the movies are influenced by Ultimates. I didn't know that (admittedly, I don't know a lot about comic books in general), but that's hilarious that they made Nick Fury look like Sam Jackson!
Oh Civil War, ouch. Not too long ago I randomly picked up Brubaker's "Death of Captain America." (This isn't the same as Fallen Son, is it?) It was before I seriously got into the ship, but it was still pretty heartbreaking to read. Tony's speech - or rather, his inability to give one - especially. I'm thinking the actual Civil War stuff would be one big mass of hurt, but if Steve and Tony can get through it, I can suck it up and read it *nods* It is a pretty core part of their relationship.
New Avengers sound like a good place to start, then. Although, I've always wondered how all the different series merge their arcs. So if something happened in, say Iron Man, then would Ultimates or New Avengers just pick it up but not really explain it? Do the different universes show the same canon?
*is a comic book n00b*
Thank you so much for the detailed reply! It was quite helpful.
Also love your icon, btw! Movie Cap and Tony <3
Do I ever stop babbling? No.
Ultimates is its own universe, so you don't have to worry about crossovers. If something happens to Tony in Civil War, that won't come into play in the Ultimates world because they're dual continuities.
But Ulitmates is a good general introduction to the characters I think, especially side people who you need to know of but might not read their books. (The movies, for instance, are using Ultimates!Cap's costume, but appear to have Steve's 616 personality. And what happens to Bucky in the movie will determine what they're following storywise -- he survives, it's more Ultimates, he "dies" and it's 616. In 616, Tony's been sober for years, in Ultimates I'm not sure there are many scenes where Tony doesn't have a drink in his hand -- although his reason for drinking is very different than 616 Tony. Movie Tony definitely shares elements of both.)
As for New Avengers, they just work those events in. So something happens in Iron Man's book, it eventually shows up in New Avengers (sometimes explained, sometimes... not as much). Continuity can be wonky given publication schedules, but they all intersect. For instance, I want to say Steve showed back up ALIVE in several issues of comics -- including Fraction's Iron Man run -- but in his series he was still time traveling and not officially back yet. Or, like, in Avenger's Prime, Tony doesn't have an arc reactor in his chest... even though he got it during the Siege storyline and Avengers Prime is after that.
As I said, woooooonky. So in one issue of New Avengers Tony will be one way, and then the stuff that happened to him in Extremis will come into play (and suddenly you'll be like "WHEN DID TONY'S MIND START TALKING TO SATELLITES?!) It's sort of why I like to read the individual hero's books first, then the group stuff.
"Death of Captain America" sort of starts off the run without Steve. It's a good series. "Fallen Son" is more a collection (from 5 issues) of people remembering Steve right after his death. Wolverine, Spiderman, the other Avengers. In one of them Tony is trying to get Hawkweye to take up the Captain American mantel. It also includes Steve's funeral and "burial" (from Tony's POV).
For direct Tony/Steve stuff, definitely get CW: Iron Man. ("The Confession" and "Rubicon" are pretty much must-reads in my book.) There's another trade, and it's kind of odd because you can't find it on Amazon, but it's just called "Iron Man - Captain America" and it's filled with just a history of their (sometimes tumultuous) friendship going back yeeears. As a S/T fan I really like that one. The cover is a shot of Civil War Iron Man looming over a beaten-up Cap. (Great picture, sort of not the best representation of their friendship.)
I keep mentioning Extremis, mostly because it had a huge impact of Tony in the MarvelU, and I think it really gets to the heart of the character.
The second to last sketch is amazing

The 'Dem Pecs' picture is making me laugh. Tony's expression!

Whoo, Gaia! We should pool our resources and buy more art xD
Re:
Thanks for the clarification! With so many different storylines, characters, and continuity concerns, one has to admire Marvel for being able to keep it together in a coherent way at all. It is still intimidating for any newcomers though!
I'm glad to be able to jump into this with my eyes open and having a map of sorts to navigate, thanks to you! :)
That's also good advice about reading the individual ones first. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the Extremis stuff. I adore Tony as a computer xD You know, when I first found out about him having the Extremis, it wasn't even so much of a surprise as a "well, that makes perfect sense" reaction lol. Oh, Tony.
The guy that worked at the comic store gave me a weird look when I went in there the last time, since I'm obviously not the targeted demographic (although didn't Stan Lee say Iron Man got more fan mail from females than any other Marvel character? *g*). I'm pretty sure he thought I was picking up a gift for a kid brother or something. My goal is to go there enough times that they won't even bat an eye anymore :D

Mostly I just lurk in the art shops forums. There are a ton of artists offering up stuff there, so I'll just browse and order something if I have enough gold. The tricky part is getting them to draw manly men lol, AND getting them to draw Steve and Tony making out *snerk*
Re: The second to last sketch is amazing
I remember imsoniac, he's cool. I'll look for his LJ too. Thanks!
