The sheer amount of destruction was incredible, Tony thought, gazing out over the rubble that seemed to consist mainly of crushed Doombots, wrecked cars, several torn up lampposts, and quite a bit of crumbled asphalt. He'd arrived at this particular fight too late to help - he'd flown as fast as he could from the business meeting in New Jersey, but this fight appeared to have ended pretty quickly.

At least it looked like no one was seriously hurt, although all the Avengers on site seemed a bit worse for wear. Spiderman was picking apart a web that Jan had gotten stuck in; Hank Pym sat on the sidewalk, examining a crushed antenna on his helmet; Clint examined a long tear on the leg of his costume; and Captain America was so filthy with some kind of muck that he looked like he'd put on his old Nomad outfit.

Cap was also talking to someone small, wearing blue and red. His expression, even under the cowl, was somewhere between bemused and furious, and Tony flew the Iron Man suit over the rubble and set down gently next to his friend.

"What on earth happened here, Cap?" he asked. Steve opened his mouth and started to speak, only to be interrupted.

"It was I, Super Grover!" Tony looked down. What he'd thought at first was a child was in fact a strange blue furry creature who came up to about Captain America's knees. It wore a silver helmet, a red cape and boots, and...well, that was about it. Its arms and legs were skinny and seemingly boneless, and its toothless, lipless mouth opened up so wide its head seemed almost to split in half with every word.

"There is no need to thank me," the creature declaimed in a high pitched voice. "It is my job as a super hero to help wherever I am needed."

"You caused even more destruction than the Doombots would have done all on their own," Steve growled.

"Destruction is my middle name!" the thing replied. "Well, actually, my middle name is Cleveland, but you did not hear that from me. So! I was wondering, since I have shown what an awesome super hero I am, if I could join the Avengers?"

"No!" Steve exclaimed. "Absolutely not!"

The thing was undeterred. "But I am Super Grover! I am faster than lightning! Stronger than steel! Smarter than a speeding bullet!"

Steve sighed. "Look, kid - er, Super Grover - I can see that you mean well. But I don't think the super hero business is the right one for you."

"But - but I even have a sidekick!" It turned and called out, "Oh, Super Elmo!"

Something small, red and blue crawled out from under a dead Doombot. It was smaller than Super Grover, but bright red and furry, with a blue cape and a helmet that looked suspiciously like a colander. It scurried over to Cap and Iron Man, crying out in an almost painfully high pitched voice, "It is I, Super Elmo!"

"Look, whatever you guys are, you can't be super heroes!" Steve told them.

Super Grover visibly drooped, but the little red - thing - giggled and piped up, "That's okay! Elmo is tired of playing super heroes."

"You are?" Super Grover asked its companion. "What would you like to play now?"

It held up a circuit board, clearly salvaged from one of the fallen Doombots. "Elmo wants to play 'Let's Build a Robot'!"

-the end-

IDEK. It's all your fault, okay?
