Cap_Ironman Weekly News, Week Ending 4 March 2012

Hello and welcome to the weekly [livejournal.com profile] cap_ironman/[community profile] cap_ironman newsletter.

The big news this week is, of course, the new trailer (kindly posted here by [livejournal.com profile] tsukinofaerii, but do check out this version!). I don't know about you, but I've lost track of the number of times I've watched it. If you're interested in the design work that went into Tony's new armour, check out this interview with one of the concept artists. There's also some nice new images of Steve and the gang on these trading cards.

Avengers Dog Toys. I don't know either.

In comics news, editor Axel Alonso and writer Matt Fraction discuss AvX, the fall out from said, Defenders, and the future of Iron Man. There's a picture of the new Iron Man, if one's interested. Also, there's this super cute alternate cover from AvX. Baby Avengers!

Finally, this challenge amuses me, but there is thus far an utter lack of Steve/Tony represented in it. Do look into the 50 Reasons to Have Sex Fic Fest. Also (okay so that last one wasn't finally finally), if you're looking for prompts or challenges, don't forget that our own bingo cards are available through the end of the year. If you don't already have one, why not sign up?

If you're interested in the ship, you may want to read the Ship Manifesto, and consult the list of Slashy Moments (Now at one hundred and fifty moments). If you're planning to write for the comm, there are some tips on writing the pairing here, and the Avengers in general here; if you're having trouble finding a beta, or would like to offer your services as a beta, our beta list is here. If you're looking for the comm archive, it's Tales of Suspense, and it's automated - you can create an account and upload your fic. Oh, wow. I may really, really one of those Avengers bandanas for my dog. She'd probably never forgive me, but it'd totally be worth it. (Also, that yellow lab in the Captain America bandana is ADORABLE. I want to skritch his ears.)

[identity profile] nozomi-no-da.livejournal.com 2012-03-05 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, my work actually has those dog toys, and you have no idea how tempting those bandanas are-- not for my dog, but for me! Luckily for me and my paycheck, the largest we have is a L, and I don't think they would fit my head. XD Otherwise the Iron Man, Captain America, and Avengers ones would be mine.

Hahahahaha, oh goodness. Well, I've always thought Tony would make a good border collie, what with the being slightly insane.

[identity profile] kikainausagi.livejournal.com 2012-03-05 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
Steve's would be a very large, very friendly mutt... and I'm not sure that the rest would be.

If only I could draw dogs. I've tried, it ends badly. :(

Tangentially on topic, there are a bunch of awesome vids for Tony but I haven't found as many for Steve yet. Has anyone vidded the Captain America movie to Carbon Leaf's 'The War Was In Color'?

And probably most people have already seen these Tony vids, but I loved them:

Is anyone else interested in what's going on in 616? Personally I'm coming in with low expectations thanks to Fear Itself...lol. Anyone find it amusing that Marvel is still referencing Civil War in comparison...like they didn't try and attempt any following events? Well, I suppose the bright side is they are trying to make the book bi-weekly in order to keep up "momentum"...so yeah for that? On the other hand, it could generate some new ficcage material, yes? One thing is for sure, it'll be interesting to see how this event will differ being written by so many authors...it's like a giant round robin...or maybe it's more of a collective think tank?

As for the new Iron Man...Tony quitting will at least generate some new fic material. I wonder how long he's going to quit for...unless he somehow dies in the event... >_>' which is possible... But since this is 616 I don't worry too much, especially with the movie coming out. [pets Tony] One would even wonder if Tony quitting in his solo even effects him in other books since he's in that new upcoming Avengers title by Bendis. Just look at Thor, he supposedly was erased from existence after Fear Itself and that didn't quite carry over in other books [shrugs].

Other comic news...Bendis will be leaving Avengers, which somewhat makes me sad since it's thanks to him we get all the nice Steve/Tony moments. But maybe with the new writer we'll have a more of a EMHs feel...though I do hope we get some answers to the whole Ultron War before Bendis leaves the title. Unless they are planning to make that another event...[headesk]

Any news from 1610? I lost touch ever since they offed Peter so I'm wondering if it's worth looking into...

Dog!Cap does not need your Frisbees! He has his own. (Admittedly, the shield is a little hard to drag around, and it's not fun to pick it up the next day and find dried slobber on the handles. But still!)

I second that recommendation! Miles is such a precious baby and I just want to scoop him up and whisk him away to the Marvel Adventures universe or somewhere like that where he'll be safe!

And I know it's not the typical superhero book, but Winter Soldier is really fantastic- and not just because Bucky and Natasha are so perfect together. (Which they are!) I admit I was never interested in Nick Fury's series nor any of the series about S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, so maybe Winter Soldier isn't completely different from those book, but it's interesting to see the Marvel Universe from a more 'covert' angle.

I hear you about dropping almost everything too. I think at the start of the Heroic Age I was reading roughly 8-10 ongoing titles (not including minis) and now I'm basically down to pretty much Avengers...on/off again New Avengers (mostly because of the Dark Avengers arc)...and I keep tabs on Invincible Iron Man. Any other title I either skim through or read comments on them on CBR forums, but yeah...mostly it's sort of sad.

A new voice on Avengers will be something I want to see, mostly because I haven't seen anyone else write them persay (save for Yost on EMHs)...so yeah, I want to see what will come from it. I mean, Storm just joined the Avengers and she hasn't done anything yet...and with the upcoming AvX I have no clue how that'll effect her status. Speculations of who might take the reigns is always fun...around the rumor mill I read Hickman might be it since he's leaving one of his titles. But who knows really :D

As far as Ultimate Spider-Man goes...I know I am carrying a lot of resentment for Miles because of Peter (anyone would considering no one likes to watch their first solid exposure to comics die)...but I do keep hearing a lot of good things about the series. I want to give it a chance, even though part of me wants to be stubborn and go "noooooo" but I think I may cave sooner or later. I think the Spidey title is the only solid thing coming from 1610 so far...I think...I think the Ultimates are still doing it's thing...1610!Steve is still retired...and superhuman arms race and all that jazz.

Is Winter Soldier out? >_> gyah I'm lost out of the loop...lol. I was thinking of maybe looking into that tile, but I'm not a huge Bucky or Natasha fan so....[shrugs] But there was one tag line that grabbed my attention during the promotion...and that was regarding there was more than one Winter Soldier and I went O_O !@#$!@

[identity profile] arachnes-web.livejournal.com 2012-03-05 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep- they put out two issues last month, and the 3rd one's coming out on Wednesday. And yeah, Bucky and Natasha are hunting down the other "Winter Soldier'-like sleeper agents the Soviets had Bucky train, because they're being bought and sold to the highest bidder, stasis tube and all.

I'm biased because I love Bucky and Natasha, but the story's an interesting take on the superhero books (one of the sleepers tried to assassinate Dr. Doom) plus it's $2.99. :D

I can see why Brubaker's burnt out a lot of people, especially when it comes to his focus on Bucky as opposed to Steve- the splitting off those two characters' storylines (for at least a little while) is probably a smart idea.

If nothing else, Winter Soldier is letting Brubaker channel all of his spy/noir impulses into one book. The book is from Bucky's POV, but needless to say Natasha's just as important. Really the book should be called Winter Soldier & Black Widow.

But like I said, I'm biased- Bucky/Natasha is the only competition to Steve/Tony as my favor Marvel ship. :D

You should! They are lovely and wonderful and badass together! Unfortunately there isn't lot of fanfic out there for them, but between Brubaker and Liu, there's some amazing canon for them. \o/

For some reason, I read "Avengers Dog Toys" as "Avengers Dog Tags" and I got REALLY excited. Now I'm kinda sad there aren't official Avengers dog tags...

My icon's from Captain America & Bucky #624, which is generally about his time as the Winter Soldier, but really is about their secret romance when he was training her for the KGB/Red Room.

And yes! You need to read The Name of the Rose! Unfortunately Liu only wrote one story arc for Black Widow before going over the X-books, but it was an amazing story. \o/ The majority of stuff written about them is in Brubaker's run on Captain America, starting with #27 where you first find out about their past together. Their relationship has popped up in a few other books, but it's really at its best in either Captain America or Black Widow books.

Here are my personal favorites:
Issues:
Winter Solider (on-going)
Captain America #27
Captain America #36
Captain America #42
Captain America & Bucky #624

Trades:
Black Widow: The Name of the Rose
Captain America: The Man with No Face

(If I could have Liu write all the Natasha stuff and Brukbaker write all the Bucky stuff, and then have Chris Samnee do all the art- it would be the most perfect comic book ever.) XD
