BUT THEN STEVE GETS LOST AT SEA AND BUCKY AND TONY COMMISERATE, AND THEN TONY MANAGES TO BUILD THE TIME MACHINE TO GET HOME AND HE TAKES BUCKY WITH HIM, BECAUSE WHY THE HELL NOT? This is turning into a Tony/Steve/Bucky in my head.
Also, Tony makes a HORRIBLE Howling Commando because he hates grubbing in the trenches, but he sticks with them anyways to keep an eye on Steve, and they adopt him as their mascot.
