So, You Want To Read Some Comics?

Hi all. I have been getting a lot of requests from people over on my tumblr for recommendations tailored for movie fans who like Tony/Steve and want to learn more about their relationship in the comics. What I ended up writing is (much longer that I planed and) I hope a good intro to the comics from a person who understands the frustrations of having just got into something that's decades old and all the pit falls that come along with that. I also tried to make it something that didn't just show a reader more Tony/Steve but help give them knowledge to explore the Marvel universe with a little confidence and find even more things to love.

If you want to give them a great comics-resource for shipping knowledge, the steve/tony manifesto (http://community.livejournal.com/ship_manifesto/204146.html) is always worth the read.

awesome post!

chiming in to say that volume 5 of captain america was actually not as confusing as i thought it would be (unless you really don't like other people in your cap books, but i personally love bucky and even don't mind sharon (she grew on me) so YMMV). i'd very heavily recommend it if you end up deciding you do want to try out reading more cap. here's a good place (http://www.amazon.com/Captain-America-Soldier-Ultimate-Collection/dp/0785143416/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1338840636&sr=8-3) to start.

I think it could be a little confusing to someone who had just seen the films and didn't know anot winter soldier. And though Bucky is cool this was a rec list for Steve/Tony fans, not Bucky fans, if I wanted to know more about Steve I would want to read something where he is the main character.

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. I started out with the movies too and then got into the comics, though, and I didn't think they were too hard to follow from the Captain America film. I also thought that the beginnings of Brubaker's Volume 5 were mainly about Cap and not really Bucky. But like I said, YMMV. Thanks for the useful post.

I also have a long suffering wife who has to put up with much the same.
