Cap_Ironman Weekly News, Week Ending 01 July 2012

Welcome to the [livejournal.com profile] cap_ironman/[community profile] cap_ironman newsletter. First things first - the mods are running our annual poll about mod elections. You can vote until Monday, July 9th. Next, tags! If it is your first time posting a fanwork, you will not have a creator tag. The mods will do their best to create one for you within a few days of you posting your fanwork. After that, however, you will be able to use that tag yourself. The tag will be x: your_user_name, for example, x: garrideb. When you post a fic, fanart, craft, or vid, add your creator tag so other users can easily find your other works. Also, our spamming policy: simply put, please wait two days between posting fanworks of a similar nature.

What's been in the news? Well, this story - misleadingly titled Captain America and Iron Man Wed at NYC Comic Bookstore actually has nothing to do with Steve and Tony, but it's a cute story all the same. In relevant news, The Avengers will be released on September 25th on blu-ray and DVD. Here's a rundown of the special features. Any you're especially excited for? I'm a sucker for gag reels. Captain America & Iron Man #633 came out this past Wednesday. Thoughts?

Feel free to chat about any topics in the comments, but please keep it reasonably safe for work.

Finally, if you're a new or recent member, hello and welcome! Our rules are here, and in the profile; this includes our warnings policy, so please read. If you're interested in the ship, you may want to read the Ship Manifesto, and consult the list of Slashy Moments. If you're planning to write for the comm, there are some tips on writing the pairing here, and the Avengers in general here; if you're having trouble finding a beta, or would like to offer your services as a beta, our beta list is here. If you're looking for the comm archive, it's Tales of Suspense, and it's automated - you can create an account and upload your fic. If you're looking for a particular story, why not try [livejournal.com profile] cap_im_finders? If you have any questions, you can comment here or PM a mod, that's me, [livejournal.com profile] muccamukk, or [livejournal.com profile] valtyr.

Fake subject line (how I miss thee, subject lines): No Spoilers for Captain America & Iron Man #633.

I found Captain America & Iron Man (#633) a bit... uninspiring. The characters didn't grab me (and I'm already preset to like them), the art didn't grab me, the story didn't grab me. But this is the first out of three; maybe it's only warming up. The last couple of panels were interesting, however.

I haven't read it yet, but judging by the art I've seen around it's not really my thing, visually. I think I'll give it another issue before I decide if I should buy or not.

I really liked it. I liked the art, even though Tony's eyes fluctuated between brown and blue (I think they were supposed to be blue, and there was a colouring error on a couple of pages). I thought their relationship was more or less what I want it to be with Tony being joking and smart with an underpinning of angsty, and perhaps relying too much on his tech. Steve having some problems with the way Tony operates but still trusting him absolutely and admitting to his own flaws. There was a lot of mutual admiration, fond jibes and a decent fight scene.

Incidentally, the plot is a continuation of the Cap and Hawkeye comic, in which Steve turned into a dinosaur.
