Cap_Ironman Weekly News, Week Ending 30 July 2012

Hello and welcome to the weekly [livejournal.com profile] cap_ironman/[community profile] cap_ironman newsletter.

News we've all been waiting for: Who will be writing Invincible Iron Man after Matt Fraction leaves. There's good news and bad news, on this point. The good news: Kieron Gillen on script. The Bad: Greg Land on pencils. LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND! In other Marvel Now! news (anyone else feel like doing that Middleman "!!!!!" thing every time they say "Marvel Now"?): concept art for the Captain America redesign. Hockey pads! Excellent. Cap's title will be written by Rick Remender with pencils by John Romita Jr, incidentally.

I don't know if anyone's reading Ults, but if you're thinking about it, Steve's back on the team this arc, so it might be a good time to try. Marvel.com has a list of Ult Cap highlights. I'm with them until they hit Jason Aaron's Ultimate Comics Captain America. Under no circumstances read that comic!

Apparently ABC is looking at making some kind of show set in the same universe as The Avengers, but probably not having Steve and Tony :(. I guess CE and RDJ would be kind of pricey for weekly television. Still, could be interesting if it pans out (which thus far live action Marvel TV has yet to do).

Two random Iron Man things: MoneySupermarket.com has worked out the cost of being Iron Man (spoiler alert: a lot!). Also, Hot Toys has made Iron Man Mark VII.

*crosses fingers for EMH: Live Action* *sobs alone surrounded by cats*

Although, I don't see why a live action Avengers show couldn't be made with different actors. It would have to be its own thing and not a spin-off of the movies for it to work, but :( How I ache for a live action tv show now. I would gobble that up and beg for greenlights.

The Jessica Jones show just made the most sense. You get a weekly detective/crime show, with superheroes making cameos. What's not to love?

My roommate basically threatened to set things on fire if the series is not Heroes for Hire.

I don't think I've read anything pencilled by Greg Land before, so I went and googled him, now I’m sad ;-;

Why do you do this to your Iron Man fans, Marvel? Why?!

The redesign of Cap's uniform looks cool and there are moments when it makes more sense than previous ones. Looks nice, like something I'd like to see in an action movie. And I feel so so so sorry for anyone who has to draw it over and over again with so many details. I salute them :D

I also try to keep up with Ultimates, but the trick they did with different set of artist for every chapter makes it hard to read. Also the story hasn't convinced me to keep up with every issue, so now I'm just waiting for Marvel to publish second vol as the softcover to catch up.

A bit late, but now that I got the Avengers movie artbook, the new suit looks like they are trying to fit it visually to the movie!verse Cap (ultimate Cap had also some extra padding on his knees, that might not look exactly like pads, but close). Knee pads included. It's pretty much same thing they did to tie in nick Fury jr., so he looks like Jackson and has same design in majority of big verses.

Am I the only one who took a look at the whole "cost of being Iron Man" thing and wondered if they were pricing based on market value or cost of materials + Tony's time? Since it's all homemade, so to speak, the price would be significantly lower for Tony than for someone to purchase a similar piece of equipment from the defense industry market.

I also have no idea how they're figuring out the cost of a 100% fictional arc reactor when we don't even know most of the materials that make it. I mean, they're valuing JARVIS, a fully functional AI capable of human-standard reasoning and problem solving at only $10 million.

Palladium isn't radioactive. It's actually in the same group of elements as platinum. It can cause contact rashes, however, like nickel, in sensitive people but it's pretty inert.

Ultimates! My refuge from 616fuckery right now! (and oh man isn't that odd to say... considering the cluster-fuck of Millar's Ultimate X-Men is what made me give up on American comics in disgust entirely back in 2003 or so... *wince*)

I will maybe admit to making an unnatural squeaky noise of joy when Cap returned to Ultimates-- *shifty eyes* And when Tony started teasing him immediately. *^____^*

Now if Steve can just not be a complete dick to Miles... *frets*
