Cap_Ironman Weekly News, Week Ending 14 October 2012
Welcome to the
cap_ironman/
cap_ironman newsletter! It's been two weeks since the last newsletter, so hang on - we've got a lot to cover.
We've had more than a couple off-topic posts lately, so I want to reiterate from our profile: We love Steve Rogers, we love Tony Stark, and we love the relationship between them. Please remember to make one or all of those things the focus of your post. Other characters are certainly welcome in fanwork and meta posts, but a post focusing on a non-Steve or non-Tony character would be better suited to one of the many other Marvel communities. Look at the community list in our profile for ideas.
NYCC was this weekend. Here's a recap of the Ultimate Comics panel, Avengers Solo Titles panel, and Avengers Team Titles panel. and here are trailers for direct-to-DVD animated movies Hulk & Iron Man and Iron Man: Rise of Technovore.
Here's a book review of Marvel Comics: The Untold Story, which offers an extensive behind-the-scenes look at Marvel's history.
Marvel is partnering with Susan G. Komen For the Cure to raise awareness for breast cancer, including often-overlooked male breast cancer.
As always, feel free to chat about anything in the newsletter comments, just keep it reasonably safe for work!

If I remember right we can discuss 616 and all the goodness that comes with them....or lack of...but no, surprisingly the aftermath of AvX was pretty ok......if you are a Tony fan that is. XD I don't know about you, but I was pleasantly surprised Tony wasn't thrown on the chopping block this event, considering Marvel's taste for wooby!Tony feels during these things. But hey...on the plus side, Tony's character development this event leads into Gilen's run on Invincible Ironman \0/
I for one am pumped that Fraction is finally ending his run. Though I admit I sort of been skimming through the comics than actually reading them, but Tony isn't dead...and that's what's important...at least to me. Not sure what's happening with Cap if I'm being honest, but I do know his ultimate self is going to be the president - I think? So is anyone else pumped for Marvel NOW or heck even the upcoming Avengers Assemble Cartoon? Ironman anime?
[whispers] I was just kind of relieved that Tony seemed to finally get a haircut for Rise of the Technovore, but Marvel anime makes me wary despite me being an anime nerd :B

I'm still a few issues behind on AvX (my interest waned when Wanda wasn't in the first several issues, and Cap was acting like a douche) but I should take advantage of the rainy weather to catch up on comics. I was very much hoping that Tony would get a better deal than in Fear Itself and... all the other events ever, basically.
I might try a few issues of the new Iron Man run, but I'm worried about the art. I am interested in seeing Tony in a different writer's hands. I do think Fraction had a lot of strengths as a writer, but his Tony didn't mesh with the Tony in my head.

AvX wasn't a stellar event...even with the (sometimes) bi-weekly schedule, there was no question that this dragged on too long. It was also the first event where I didn't read any of the tie-in issues...which it seemed to really rely heavily on. I think I remember telling someone it was like a skipping stone across the water. As a reader you are just dropped in random spots and all you know is everyone is fighting. Cap was....[sideways glance] what I like to call switched to his Ultimate self here and there. If you were a Scott fan then I REALLY feel sorry at his apparent character treatment. But overall Tony really does come out of this with his head held high.
From what I gather Gillen is a strong writer and he's throwing some new stuff at Tony, which I'm all for. As for the art, I wasn't a fan of Larocca's work...just his style when it comes to people...everything mechanical looked amazing. So I figure I'll be okay unless the work looks like it was hit by the ugly stick. Suffered through JRJR's Avengers work okay...so I'm curious to see what this guy will do.

I am hoping the best for NOW since the "Heroic Age", imo, was just so...underwhelming. I had hoped Marvel would have put Cap through his paces as "top cop" of the MU...but they honestly didn't fall through. Every time it seemed Cap would have to finally have to face the hard choices...it just seems to work out for him, and that drove me nuts since he was technically in the in the "Nick Fury" position for such a long while...it should have rattled his moral compass a little bit. I for sure thought that was going to happen in AvX....but it's very Avengers skewed...lol. Though I'm not surprised :) lol a hot movie franchise will always put things in your favor.
As for EMHs [cries in corner] words can not describe how disappointed I am that they are somewhat rebooting with Avengers Assemble for a more Ultimate Spider-Man flavor. [cringes] I don't like Tony's new voice actor at all...they were way better sticking with Eric Loomis, but I guess that ties into EMHs too much. On the other hand, I'm actually somewhat glad EMHs did end when it did....just because you can tell how the series was declining in Loeb's hands [shivers]. The writing it buuuuurns XDDDD

Haha yeah, they seem really against portraying Cap in anything but a righteous light which I mean, I love Cap but I'd like to see him tested a bit as well too. They tried to make the whole to kill Wanda or to not kill Wanda into one of those morally grey decisions and it was but Cap never doubted his decision afaik because he's so against killing people. .___. And in heroic age they could've done so much as well but I honestly think they were just trying to contrast tony and Steve and made it into another CAP IS ALWAYS RIGHT situation. I'd love them to do something where he was totally wrong.
Huh, that's a bit odd but then again it's technically(but when has that ever stopped anyone) a kid's cartoon so I'm not overly surprised they'd go into a more US route when it's apparenty doing quite well. The comic version seems like a fun series so hopefully they'll be basing it more on that(so my wallet doesn't cry from following a new series). I'm still sad to see emh go but I still haven't watched the latest episodes so maybe that's why lol. I hate when they switch voice actors though. Sorry if this is all over the place I typed it from my itouch!
