Is Jasper or Bertram a better name for a kitten?

BERTIE WOOSTER!

Maaaaaaaaybe. *hides book and DVD collection*

Now I have the odd urge to rewrite the Avengers as a Wodehousian caper.

It's way too warm here for December. The weather keeps vacillating between kind of chilly to so warm that you can wear short pants and a shirt.

I don't like either name for a kitten... Maybe Humphrey? :)

Huh... I wasn't even thinking about Humphrey Bogart (mainly because I don't know who that is). It just popped into my head. We have three cats who are called Maus, Mohrle, and Remi. All boys, and two of the names are German. Maus is German for "mouse," and Mohrle is practically a German way of saying "black cat." :) Remi came with that name since he's adopted from the Humane Society.

I was born in Germany, and my mom is German. So I know German. :D
I've never heard of the graphic novel Maus... Is it good?

The cats aren't really a handful. Our dogs are! We have an old German Shepherd, two puppies, their mom who seems like some sort of Chihuahua mix, an actual Chihuahua, a dog of indeterminate breed but who seems like a purebred, and a Shihtzu. They all sort of fell into our laps...

Better names for cats are:
Rory (of course he's named for Rory Williams, husband of Amy Pond)
Tigwell (named for a machine called a TIG welder, because despite arguments from certain family members, Tigger was not the right name for him)
And Nosy Parker, the cat in my perennial icon: the late, great, and aptly named.

As much as I dislike the cold, I really want this oddly warm weather to go away. My allergies are giving me so much trouble. But the multitude of wonderful stories at the Marvel Big Bang (http://marvel-bang.livejournal.com/tag/submissions) community has been a great distraction!

There's a wonderful audiobook version of the Doctor Who novel Dead of Winter (http://www.audible.com/pd/ref=sr_4_4?asin=B0054L57OO&qid=1354735336&sr=4-4) in which one of the characters is a little French girl who has some wonderful conversations with "Monsieur Rory", and the narrator pronounces it so adorably that "Rory Paws" is now often called "Monsieur Rory".

I have many wonderful pictures of Nosy Parker sticking his nose in places where it didn't belong. He loved to nap in some odd places: the dish drainer, a plant pot, a radiator, a pantry shelf, the linen closet, the top step of a ladder...

Ah, fanfiction...the universal remedy.

Like most cats Monsieur Rory really doesn't care what he's called as long as there is food or snuggles to be had. Preferably both at the same time.

Rory is also called "LOLypaws" (because he's a LOLcat, of course), or "LOLopus", a combination of LOLcat, octopus, and pussycat. Tigwell often "gets up to Tig-Wiggery" (mischief).

I could go on for hours. I'm amazed our cats actually know their proper names.

It's been more than 7 years, but I still miss Nosy Parker. He was a great cat!

We used to have a dog who was originally named Arfie (because he said "Arf" instead of "Woof"). It took a while for his digestive system to mature when he was a puppy, so Arfie quickly changed to "Barfman".
