I realize it's been three weeks since the last cap_ironman/cap_ironman newsletter, for which I apologize. A lot has happened since then: all of the Secret Santa works have been posted, and author/artist reveals will happen on the 25th. I haven't included those works in the round-up, but you can find them with the challenge: secret santa tag on DreamWidth and on LiveJournal.

The year-long Bingo Card challenge is also wrapping up. If you played and want your points tallied up, make sure you tagged your entries with the bingo tag!

Marvel has posted their solicitations for April. In movie news, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige gave some insight into the plot of Iron Man III.

Both of them are gorgeous cats, but I absolutely love Tigwell's nose! He looks a bit like my sister's cat, Merlin, except for that white nose.

I'm surprised more people aren't posting pics... I thought this was a surefire way to get people mingling *shrug* I'll have to dig up some pictures, I guess ;-)

No pets for me to post pet pictures of, sadly. Though that article on Iron Man 3 has left me a little scared. You know it's gonna be bad when they're calling him "Earth's most traumatized hero."

Yeah, especially considering Tony's competing for that title with Clint and Bruce! Still, I usually love seeing my favorite characters put through the wringer, so this is piquing my interest.

No kidding. I'm almost wondering when they're gonna cut the guy some slack. But I do love the hurt so long as there's an equal balance of comfort to it. Not sure if we'll get there here, but I'm game so long as there's a happy ending. Hopefully I'll still be able to see it, since I'll be in China at the time.

True, an equal balance of comfort is nice! I get so used to TV shows where one episode's trauma is completely ignored once the episode is over, though, that I'm just happy to get some sense of character development continuity, even if that continuity is "Tony becomes more and more of a mess." I just hate it when... ugh, procedurals especially, where a main character gets kidnapped or something, rescued five minutes before the end of the ep, the other characters pat him on the back and say they're glad he's back, and then no mention of it ever again.

I hope you get a chance to see it when you're in China, but I'm sure you'll have enough to keep you busy that you won't miss it too much if you have to wait.

I'm a bit of a hurt/comfort junkie in fic, so I'm always happy to see it in canon. XD But oh, good God, yes. There's a reason I can't ever really get into procedurals beyond watching and episode or two when someone else has flipped the channel to it. I need either an arc I can follow or character development that sticks, usually both, to keep me involved with the show.

I've heard there are lots of little movie theaters that get movies before they're even released, but I'm a bit of a quality junkie when it comes to the big movies. I'm still mad about Die Hard 5 coming out like, a week after I leave. Still, it's China. I can't complain much past that. XD I'll find ways to watch things if I stay there long enough, I'm sure.

Same here; I love h/c fic, and most procedurals don't appeal to me. There are some procedurals that have enough continuity to keep me in--for example, House (for several seasons, at least)--but most don't.

I keep meaning to watch the Die Hard movies. I heard the... third one(?) was pretty slashy, and generally I approve of using motorcycles to take out helicopters and such. Good luck catching Die Hard 5 and Iron Man III. I hope you find a way!

I never got into House. By the time I thought I'd consider it, a friend of mine who is asexual mentioned they were having an asexuality episode, and after she'd watched it there was Extreme Disapproval. After riding out that firestorm, I figured I could make a pass on it. It's one of the reasons I liked Torchwood though. Because you had that episodic feel rather than an arc, but you still had Ianto reeling over the death of his girlfriend for several episodes and Owen lashing out after something traumatic. You got a sense of things not just fading away. At least up to Children of Earth. I wasn't too fond of Miracle Day. I don't think I even managed to finish it. -_-;;;

Oh, Die Hard. They are such brilliant movies. My Christmases and Fourth of Julys would be so empty without them. And now they're giving us a Valentines Day one, which could almost make me like the holiday. I honestly couldn't say about the slashy-ness of the third movie, but I don't ship naturally to begin with. I'd definitely recommend the series though, cause really, there are so many good explosions. And killing a helicopter with a car was just fantastic. <3

I don't recall an asexual episode, so maybe that was after I'd stopped watching (or my memory just sucks) but I can very much imagine them botching that topic. I was never quite happy with how they handled one of the main character's bisexuality, although it was the context that sucked more than the actual plot lines.

I liked Torchwood's continuity, too. I never watched Miracle Day because Children of Earth felt like such an absolute ending to me. Plus I heard Miracle Day was quite gruesome, which I don't handle well.

I have put Die Hard on my to-watch list.

It's always harder to recall details in shows like that, if just because the formula for it is generally followed so religiously.

You aren't missing much with Miracle Day. I only got through half of it myself, before I just got bored with it. It had all the problems of RTD's writing with characters I couldn't really actively like and some surprisingly terrible pacing. Plus the gruesome bits, which I didn't care for either. Sadly, Miracle Day kind of killed Torchwood for me. Children of Earth was a pretty good ending though. Even if I'll accept that one audio play that came after because that legit makes me cry every time, where as CoE really doesn't.

I have put Die Hard on my to-watch list.

You won't regret it. XD

Ahaha! That is so true. They should totally realize that and make a movie of her. Just get some decent writing and non-skimpy outfits to put her in for a decent portion of the movie, and people will actually like a female superhero movie.

Oh, what am I talking about? That's probably too hard for them. They wouldn't know what to do without relying on the sex appeal.

Salt was one of those movies I really wanted to see and then couldn't find/bully anyone into seeing it with me. And when that happens, I usually have neither the time or money to really make an effort to watching it once it's on dvd. You should have seen how long it took me to actually sit down and watch Iron Man 2. We won't go into the fact I've still never seen Inception and every single one of my friends cringe when I remind them of this. *slightly shamed* Was it good? I've heard some mixed reviews.

Eh, not missing much with Inception. Salt, however, is the Natasha Romanov movie that we all want, but are never going to get.

MCU Natasha hasn't struck me as particularly traumatized, though, or at least no more so than MCU Steve.

Now I can't see the word "manpain" without thinking of that fanvid The Price. Best manpain critique yet IMO.

That's because she's hiding her secret pain. She's killed like a gazillion people and the focus of the story is that she feels bad about it. Steve just righteously out lived everyone.

Yeah. I saw that. I didn't really get it? Like I see the point they were making, but the vid didn't do much for me. I liked that flowchart that was kicking around though.

She talks about her secret pain in such practical terms--it's clearly something that weighs on her, but she just seems so capable of dealing with it, just as Steve seems capable of dealing with his pain.

Well, the vid worked for me partly because I found the song absolutely hilarious. I thought it balanced a sobering, often sexist trope ("bad things that happen to female characters happen to female characters, bad things that happen to male characters actually happen to female characters") with humor. That song just makes me laugh though--so earnest yet so cornily melodramatic!

I saw your cats, too. They're both adorable. I have one more cat at home. His name's Mohrle. And aside from the cats, we have several bunnies and lots of dogs.

I googled Mohrle (because it sounded vaguely familiar) and the first thing that came up was a German football player. But it seems that it's a popular name for black cats. Can I ask what led you to choose that name? I'm curious (I'm always curious about why people name their pets as they do).

Your cats are all gorgeous. Are they Persians, Himalayans, or something else?

My mom's German, and she named him. Maus is "mouse" when translated; I'm not sure what led to my mom naming him that. I was really small when we got him, and he's such a sweetie. Remi came with that name when we adopted him from the Humane Society.

Maus is part Persian we think. Not sure about Mohrle, since he was a stray kitten when we managed to catch him. He and his sister had been holed up in a pipe under a bridge and we managed to snag both of them. Sadly, his sister died days later because she was too malnourished. He's alive and relatively healthy, though. I say "relatively" because he doesn't really seem to care for grooming...
As for Remi... No one's exactly sure what breed he is. I think my mom guessed a Maine Coon one time, but I personally have no idea.
