Steve's healing and Tony's Physical Well-being or lack there in.
So, here is another Canon thoughts/question type of post. It is a short one, but I figured it might interest people. It was brought to mind by a Steve music video I watched recently. In it was the scene from the Avengers where Steve gets hit by one of the blaster/lazer guns. Since it was cut to just show when he got hit and not the recovery, it really brought to mind how much damage that would have done to a normal human. The force was enough to lift his body out from under him, off the ground so that he fell face first, hard.
So, Steve's ability to heal.
In the Avenger movies, he obviously can take more damage and heal faster than a normal human, but I don't think he's got a crazy ability to heal because his side still hurt after the fight.
I've not read Ultimates, but from what I understand movie Steve is more based off of him in his powers, so I'm assuming he has a healing factor? I seem to remember the serum healed him from being a vampire?
The Comic universe 616's Steve is listed as not having a healing factor. He just heals like a human in the peak of physical health. So, I imagine it is about like how fast health kids heal.
That being said the various fanfics have his ability to heal all over the place. From being a fairly normal human to being able to heal major injuries that would kill a normal superhero. I even came across one where it was on par with Wolverine! o.O
I know the fandom in general is aware of this and sometimes pokes fun of it. I read fic where one of the characters tells Steve to just admit it he has a healing factor.
Now we have Tony. tony's health is always suffering. If it isn't, you know it will be again, it just is a matter of time. The origin in all three universe have him receiving a near fatal injury. He doesn't die due to SCIENCE! in two of them. Before that he was just human as far as healing goes and in at least two of them he probably was heading towards liver problems later in life. This one constant flaw is always paired with an event that changes his paradigm and sends him down a new path.
For Movie Tony, that's the reactor. I have to say there has been many wonderful fics that deal with what the reality of having that thing in your chest could mean for him. Tony in the movies(for plot reasons I assume) is fairly resilient. The things he walks away with with no injuries is pretty amazing. :) When he does get hurt though he seems to heal like a normal human.
Ultimates Tony's thing is a tumor in his head. Now, I've read the original ultimate iron man comics where his nervous system is one giant brain and he has this blue nano skin to project him from all the sensory over load. He also has an almost Wolverine healing factor. I've been told though that, that tony is not the ultimates one. That being said some of the ultimate fics I've read incorperate that so I'm not really sure where Ultimate Tony's ability to heal is really.
616's Tony has been all over the place in regards to his weakness. It originally was his heart and it seems to always come back to that. Right now if I understand right his basic motor funtion(aka heart, blood, breathing etc..) is run entirely by the repulsor in his chest. From something he said in one of the comics, it will let him avoid eating and drinking for awhile, but it won't get rid of how tired he might feel. Since the repulsor let's him control his body via hand wave comic science, I believe he has a slight healing factor?
So now on to the questions
1) Did I get the above stuff about their health right? or am I confused or missed something.
2) Which of the canon versions interests you the most?
3) Which version canon, fanon or personal head canon do you think of them being in your head.
Here are my answers to 2 and 3.
2) I have to admit I'm not that familiar with the comic versions of Steve as I would like, but I'm working on it. Physically, I have to say I like the way Movie Steve works best.
Tony is a tougher call. I find the premise of the arc reactor interesting, and I have a certain fondness for Tony in disguise with a chest plate. Right now were I'm reading though probably is my favorite. He's got the bleeding edge armor, which means he can do a lot of the things he could do with extremis, but he doesn't have the god like technopathy power he did in execute program.
3)For Steve, I think I like it best when bruises and the like heal in a day or two, but major injuries take longer though short than for a normal human. I like it when Steve can actually be roughed up and hurt, but authors don't have to go to extreme measures to get him there. I'll also admit I like when Tony keeps having to reapply hickies and/or bite marks.
As for Tony, my mind always jumps first to him have issues with his heart which he keeps as a secret from everyone. I don't think I've got one version of him I tend to settle on yet. There is so much variety out there for me to learn about. I guess what I like the best is when you pare it down to the theme of Tony screwing himself over and finally being able to overcome the obstacle when he asks for help(rare) or more commonly some notices knocks him over the head and drags him into not shouldering everything himself.
So, what about you guys?

For Tony... I enjoy playing with the arc reactor, but I also tend to go with what we see, and what we see doesn't include RDJ acting like he's in pain for three movies for having the reactor. So I tend to tread softly on the effects the arc reactor might have on him. That stated, I have just written an entire fic based around Tony's health issues after the reactor is taken out, so there's that. They do, after all, state that no one has survived the open heart surgery technique performed on Tony before, so it's been interesting playing with what could happen after the arc reactor is gone and the shrapnel is gone too.
Plus, who doesn't like making Tony think he's dying again? XD

Tony...Sorry I maintain a soft spot for human Tony. Don't get me wrong, I love Extermis (even if it took us to some weirdly dark places) and I love movie Tony, but Tony as a Vulnerable Human, there's so much fun to have with that. I think it's one of the reasons he and Steve can work as a couple. Steve used to be always sick and Tony is nearly always going to be sick (even if the cause is just the voices in his head)
