More 616 canon questions - Pre-Civil War New Avengers

So I think I may have finally figured out what I'm doing for my Cap-Ironman BB fic, and how to do it, but it did lead me to a few questions.

1. Does anyone know when, in the New Avengers (Pre-Civil War, starts with Break Out), Tony acquires Extremis? I've read the Extremis arc and tried to compare it to armor styles and what we actually see Tony doing in the Avengers stuff and I just can't figure it out. I am not very good at distinguishing between the armors, apparently. Also, at the beginning of Extremis one of Tony's board members implies that Tony's just spent six weeks in his garage, presumably working on the armor. Which doesn't seem like it would fit into Avengers stuff at all, unless it occurred before Break Out. But then Tony and Maya talk about the avengers like they're a functioning team, so idk. I think best guess in chat a few weeks back was sometime around issue 16 or 17? But the issue 14 armor looks really similar to me so I just thought I'd check. Pretty sure he doesn't have it in issue 13, when they're in Japan fighting Hydra.  Help?

2. Would it be believable for Tony to meet with Jan as friends, outside Avengers stuff? Her profile in the Marvel Comics database says she left Hank in England and returned to the US to work on fashion design at some unidentified time before the Civil War. I've gotten the impression from fic that she and Tony are pretty good friends most of the time, but I haven't actually seen that in the (admittedly few) comics I've read. Would it be believable for her to visit Stark Tower at all, or would she stay away because she's avoiding superhero stuff?

3. Does anyone know how the Rumiko storyline works into the Avengers timeline? Does she die before Disassembled, or is it later?

4. Does pre-Extremis Tony have scars from his heart surgery? (That's where he is during this period, right? No chestplate, new heart - then extremis -brain delete and RT?)

1. Tony gets Extremis at the very beginning of Volume 4 of Iron Man. This is well before Civil War.

3. Rumiko appears in Volume 3 of Iron Man. She dies just before the events of Avengers Disassembled. So she is already dead when Tony gets Extremis.

1) Don't try and line things up. Just go "It's comics" and accept the floating timeline into your life. They're written by different people, at different times, without a set time, and aren't written to be lined up with strict timelines. Just accept that it's early after the New Avengers form, but before Civil War.

3) By publication date, Rumiko dies during Avengers Disassembled, so it's a little hard to say. Floating timeline.

4) Oh yes. Lots of scars. And an artificial heart he has to recharge. One that a sentient version of his armor plunged into his chest. It's...very creepy.

Thanks, and yeah. I seem to be having trouble with that. *sigh* it'll penetrate eventually, I'm sure.

Does he have the artificial heart just before extremis, or does he get an actual human organ at some point in there?

1) Tony got Extremis before the Collective storyline of New Avengers (vol1, #16-#20).
I'm not 100% sure, but I think Extremis wasn't mentioned in NA earlier, but he used it during this arc.

Also, I must say it's interesting how that has apparently become the most-used Who line I've ever seen. Guess it's just really widely applicable in fandom in general.

3. I just had a quick skim-read of Disassembled, and it all happens in one day, with Tony 'drunk' at the UN in the morning (possibly early afternoon- the Avengers at the mansion are eating some kind of meal together, but I can't tell if it's breakfast or lunch), and Wanda being taken away by Magneto at night. In Iron Man #86 it shows Rumiko watching the news but being unable to contact Tony throughout the day, so the next day she gets on a plain to go to America. I'm afraid I don't have time to look through the entire story-arc right now, but I would guess it was that day (the day after 'Disassembled') or the day after that that Rumiko is killed.
The devastating thing about Disassembled is that everyone loses so much over just a couple of days. (It should be noted though that Tony doesn't officially disband the Avengers until 6 months later. I don't really know what was supposed to be happening during those months though, so if the date doesn't fit your plot, I'd say just ignore it.)

As for where Extremis falls on the timeline, that's something that's perplexed me for a while too!
