Universe: Phase 1 MCU with imported comic book elements. By now very much AU
Pairings/Characters:Eventually Steve/Tony, initial Pepper/Tony & background Hank/Jan (Neither explicit.) This chapter mainly: Tony, Steve, Natasha, Clint
Rating:This chapter R.(Maybe. I'm not familiar with American film ratings.) Mature in AO3 speak.

Word Count: 7800 for this chapter, 137,817 for this work so far
Beta Reader: [livejournal.com profile] ellex42
A/N: Canon Compliant until the end of The Avengers. Not and never will be IM3, 'Thor:the Dark World', 'Captain America: the Winter Soldier' or 'Agents of SHIELD' compliant. English spelling. Work in Progress
Summary:

After the Battle of Manhattan, with their enemies defeated, the Avengers have scattered. Only Tony Stark remains in New York, playing his own part in dealing with the consequences.

Steve Rogers has been searching for an America that no longer exists. His return to the East Coast will also have unexpected consequences.

But formidable forces are moving to use or destroy members of the Avengers, and Tony's plans for his technology have panicked industry, government and other, more secretive, players...

This chapter: "Then the sky was steady above him and Tony realised, far too late, that once again Steve was throwing himself between him and danger, whatever the cost."
