Mod Team Changes

A few weeks ago, a call was put out looking for a few good mods for the community. As of today, the previous mod team of [livejournal.com profile] cap_ironman is handing over the reins to an interim team consisting of [livejournal.com profile] runningondreams, [livejournal.com profile] navaan, and [livejournal.com profile] teyke. We would like to thank [livejournal.com profile] whizzy, [livejournal.com profile] mrhd, and [livejournal.com profile] kabal42 for all their hard work over the past two years. During their tenure the comm expanded greatly: the tumblr went from 2000 to 5000 followers, and the number of participants in fests and exchanges grew by leaps and bounds. We would also like to thank [livejournal.com profile] salmastryon and [livejournal.com profile] dragonofmemory, who will continue to assist with chats, discussions, and some behind-the-scenes items.

In addition to the change in personnel, we are implementing changes to the way that events are moderated (described below). In order to give these changes some time to shake out, we will not be holding a community election for moderator positions at this time; instead, we will hold a vote this summer.

The community mods can be reached at cap.im.mod@gmail.com.

New System for Event Modding

Since the increase in activity brought by the MCU, the comm now runs exchanges and challenges almost continuously (and sometimes concurrently) throughout the year. We have many members of the community who would like to help run these events but are unable to commit to year-round modding. In order to lessen the load on the community mods, and allow more people the chance to get involved in running events, we are restructuring how the comm runs events.

For each large event (in particular the Big Bang, the RBB, and the Holiday Exchange), the community mods will recruit and appoint a separate event mod team. This team will be responsible for organizing and moderating all aspects of that event for that year; they will be granted moderator/maintainer status in event-affiliate communities and/or collections, and will be responsible for the cap.im.events@gmail.com email for the duration of the event.

The comm mods will be responsible for ensuring that event mod teams have enough people with sufficient experience and time to make the event a success. Newer volunteer event mods will be teamed up with more experienced volunteers to allow more people the chance to gain that experience. We will also be developing event guidelines based on previous rules & regs and on polls that will be held in the coming month.

This system has been introduced with the 2015 RBB, with event mods [livejournal.com profile] cptshellhead, [livejournal.com profile] vibraniumstark, and [livejournal.com profile] nohaijiachi.

Q&A

Q. Is there going to be a vote about this new system?
A. Not at this time. The only viable alternate solution we currently have for addressing the modding work-load is to add more full-time mods; however, that wouldn't give people opportunities to get involved on a temporary basis and would require more experienced full-time mods than we currently have volunteers. That said, if we run into problems with the new system, we'll consider changes. If you have more ideas for alternative systems, please email us at cap.im.mod@gmail.com. We are happy to discuss other possibilities, but our most important goal right now is to ensure the events and basic functions of the comm continue to be covered.

Q. What events will the community run?
A. The comm will continue to run the same annual events that have already been established: the Reverse Bang, the Big Bang, the Holiday Exchange, and Rec Week. Other events may be added on a one-off or annual basis. If you have ideas, we encourage you to suggest or discuss in the comments below.

Q. Can I be an event mod?
A. Sure! Send an email to cap.im.mod@gmail.com and let us know what event(s) you'd like to help out with. Please include how much experience you have to assist us in balancing the event team with new and old mods.

Q. I want to run an event with my friend. Can we be on a team for the same event?
A. Sure, just let us know that in the email. Depending on the level of experience you have, you may be paired up with additional team-members.

Q. I'm not sure I'd like to run an event, but I'd still like to help out. What can I do?
A. Lots! Smaller items include things like: volunteering with the newsletter, running a discussion, making bingo cards, or submitting items to the tumblr. We also have background items that we could always use another hand with. Send an email to cap.im.mod@gmail.com or speak to a mod on the IRC channel.

Q. An event mod made a decision I don't like. Can I appeal it to the community mods?
A. Event mods are responsible for their event. If an event mod makes a decision about their event that you disagree with, you may appeal to that mod or the event team as a whole. Community mods will not overrule event mods; they may, however, include it in the guidelines for future events.

If you believe that an event or comm mod is behaving inappropriately, and you are not comfortable discussing it with the mod in question, please bring it to the attention of a community mod. Individual mod emails are linked in the sidebar.

Q. The first paragraph says we hit 5000 followers on tumblr. Is there going to be a giveaway for hitting that milestone?
A. We're glad you asked! There is indeed going to be a giveaway soon. Keep an eye on the cap-ironman tumblr for when it goes live!

Q. I have a question/comment/concern/idea that you haven't addressed here.
A. Send us an email at cap.im.mod@gmail.com or discuss in the comments below.

If you have concerns, please do let us know. We want to facilitate smooth and open communication going forward, and increase member engagement in the community events and daily operations. However, tensions in the community have been higher than usual lately, and this is a sensitive topic. If you comment to this post, please take extra care to ensure courtesy towards your fellow community members.
