Well, if your're with Kang there is the that fucked up Vol. 1 story line where Kang manipulates Tony into being a villain and he then dies, like this and is resurrected as a teenager.
I guess you're right that we generally get Tony being the one who reflects more on what Cap means to him. Cap really is his hero.
With Steve the moments when he shows what Tony means to him are usually quieter and more personal - like when he shows trust in Tony or worries about him, remembers he gave him a home, or when he defends him on TV during all of the Tiberus Stone slander. I see why that doesn't work at the same level of "inspiring" though.
But maybe something that would work for 616 Steve is more seeing Tony be kind as Tony - like doing charity or something, that he'd find inspiring? Or something that makes him realize that Tony doesn't seek attention for all the good work he did. Or remember how Tony repaired the shield for him once? I guess a moment where he realizes that Tony gives him stability would be good, or how much Tony is willing to do for him/the team/people?
There are also always moments like Red Zone or this or this with Tony nearly dying, that can work as a kind of parallel to the death. Like you say the situations are different though.
Hey! I'm sure you can do it! Don't let the plot idea intimidate you!!! :D I'll be here to cheer you on all the way. I love the idea!!
