Remix Madness 2018 - OPEN
While participants are working on their Remix Exchange Assignments and Relay Remixes, we bring you the third part of our Remix fest: Captain America/Iron Man Remix Madness 2018 is open for business. Madness is a low-stress, no obligation event. During Madness, you are welcome to create as many remixes as you want or feel comfortable with from now until reveals happen! But if you sign up and find your muse has gone AWOL, that's okay too.

Note: If you defaulted on our main remix challenge after the deadline, you can still participate in Remix Madness, but it won't count as fulfilling your assignment for the exchange.
If you want to know more about remixing, look at our Remix - How to post. This is a remix challenge. It’s about creating your own take on something, putting your own personal spin on things, but working with the elements of the work you’re remixing. Think of remixes in music and how they work with the original. Remixing is not the same as writing a story for RBB art or illustrating a BB story, but rather taking something of a narrative and reinventing it. There is lots of room to interpret this and we are really excited to see what people can come up with in answer to the challenge.
The Remix Madness Collection will be closed on February 24th, 11:59PM UTC (What time is that for me?). All Madness works will be revealed the day after the last of the Remix Exchange fics have been revealed. Reveals of all authors and creators of all challenges is expected to happen sometime on the March 3rd.
Any more questions, just comment here or email us at cap.im.events@gmail.com.
Signing up for Remix Madness is similar to signing up for the Exchange. However, sign-ups in the Madness collection are treated like prompts in a prompt meme, for participants to browse and create as many remixes as strikes their fancy. This means the Madness sign-up has no “Offer” portion.
You must provide three pieces of information in your Request:
You have the option of clicking “Semi-anonymous prompt,” but because your fanworks will give your identity away, do not select this option.

Once you click “Submit,” your sign-up will appear in the Collection as a prompt, for any participant to see and claim. Please do not delete it after this point.
If you find a sign-up with a fanwork you want to remix, you can claim the Request to signal your intent to submit a fill. A claim is a nice singal to everyone that people are already remixing for a someone’s works - and perhaps not for others, but claiming is not a requirement.
To claim, click the “Claim” button under the person’s prompt.
Example from last year's Madness:

A prompt can be claimed multiple times by multiple people. The way AO3 is set up you can’t claim the same prompt twice yourself. But you still can put additional Remixes into the Collection without claiming.
Ao3 will show how many times the Request has been claimed, but until works are revealed, your claim will be anonymous to everyone but the mods.
That’s all there is to it! Happy remixing!

Detailed Rules and FAQ
Rules inspired by the original Remix Madness @ Remix Redux
- For Madness we invite both writers and artists to participate. For art we will consider traditional art and sketches as remixable fanworks. Manips do not count as art for this remix challenge’s purposes.
- Participation in the Fanfic Remix Exchange challenge or Relay Remix is not required to play. Anyone with an AO3 account who has created Steve/Tony art or fic can join in right here and now! (Note: Everyone! Bans for collaborative events do not count for Remix Madness.)
- To participate you have to have created at least one Steve/Tony fanwork that you are willing to offer up for remixing. This can be a simple drabble, ficlet or sketch.
- To play in Captain America/Iron Man Remix Madness 2018, you have to opt in. Sign up here by leaving the URL where your Steve/Tony works can be found as a prompt, along with a list of the universes you've created Steve/Tony stories in, and your safe story or work if you have one. Please also point out how to identify any previously created remixes in your list. (You can only have one safe story or artwork.)
- To keep it fair, you can only remix someone else if you have opted in to Remix Madness, and you can only remix people who have also opted in. Opting in to have your work remixed does not obligate you to create one. There's no penalty if you can't find anything that inspires you--this is supposed to be a no pressure challenge.
- Please remember: You are not guaranteed that anyone will create a remix for one of your works either.
- Drop-outs are not allowed. If you do not find anything you want to remix among the Madness prompts, do not delete your sign-up. Someone may have begun a remix of your work, and it would be unfair to negate their work. Remember, there is no obligation for you to create a remix, just as there is no guarantee you will get a Madness remix.
- In compliance with the community's event rules all works you offer up for remixing or that are created for this challenge must be focused on Steve/Tony (pre-slash is fine). Multiverse or time travel moresomes with more than one version of Steve and Tony coming together are allowed and encouraged, of course, but characters who are not Steve or Tony can’t be part of the main paring.
- Once you've opted in by signing up, look through the available prompts, and if something grabs you, go ahead and remix!
- Your remix must be posted to the Captain America/Iron Man Remix Madness 2018 collection to count and be promoted in the masterposts. (Artists, please note AO3 is not hosting art. Please use embedding to make your art accessible as work inside the collection)
- Normal remix rules apply -- you can't remix WIPs, the designated safe story/work, or works that were created as remixes of other work. In cases of co-created works, both creators must be okay with the possibility of remixing.
- There is no minimum word count set for remixes created for Remix Madness. Quick sketches for art are also okay.
Note: If you defaulted on our main remix challenge after the deadline, you can still participate in Remix Madness, but it won't count as fulfilling your assignment for the exchange.

Remix Madness - Sign Up Tutorial
Signing up for Remix Madness is similar to signing up for the Exchange. However, sign-ups in the Madness collection are treated like prompts in a prompt meme, for participants to browse and create as many remixes as strikes their fancy. This means the Madness sign-up has no “Offer” portion.
You must provide three pieces of information in your Request:
- In the Find my Steve/Tony fic HERE (link): field, provide a link to your Steve/Tony fanworks for your remixer. This can, for example, be a link to your Work’s Page on Ao3, or a compiled link list from tumblr.
- On Ao3, you can optionally provide a filtered list for your remixer--but note that if you have created works for 3490, this will filter out Steve/Natasha Stark. A filtered list may also have too many characters in the URL for the sign-up form’s box, so verify it is a valid link after sign-ups if you opt to do this.
- On Tumblr, if your Steve/Tony works are tagged uniquely, you can provide a filtered list with the following link format: [yourblog].tumblr.com/tagged/[tag], where [yourblog] is your tumblr blog name, and [tag] is the unique tag for your fanworks
- A list of the Steve/Tony universes for which you have created fanworks.
- Information on ineligible remix works. These include:
- One safe story: a fic you do not want remixed (no need to provide an explanation for why)
- WIPs: please list your current WIPs
- Previous Remixes: You may list them, or indicate how they are identified, e.g. “All Remixes have ‘Remix’ in the title.”
- Co-written Works: If it is not easy to identify co-authored works, please list them.
You have the option of clicking “Semi-anonymous prompt,” but because your fanworks will give your identity away, do not select this option.

Once you click “Submit,” your sign-up will appear in the Collection as a prompt, for any participant to see and claim. Please do not delete it after this point.
Claiming a Madness Prompt
