2018 Cap-IronMan Alphabet Challenge

The original Alphabet Challenge ran from July to September 2008. At the end of it, the then still growing Steve/Tony fandom had 26 new shiny fanworks to be proud of. In celebration of the community's first ever challenge, we're running another Alphabet Challenge for Cap-IronMan's 10 year anniversary!

All mediums are welcome and there are no minimum requirements! Rules and guidelines for the Alphabet Challenge, as well as all other anniversary-related events, can be found here:

Cap-IronMan Anniversary Challenges: Rules and Guidelines

How does it work?
  • Claim a letter (or several!) or ask us to assign you a random letter if you feel adventurous.
  • Choose a prompt/theme that starts with the letter you've claimed.
  • Make a fanwork based on that prompt in secret.
  • Submit your work to the Alphabet Challenge AO3 Collection.
  • Wait for reveals!

CLAIMING A LETTER
The claims and creation period will run from now (February 8) to February 28. In order to claim your letter, just comment below with the sign-up information, and a moderator will respond as soon as possible to confirm your claim!

To sign-up you need to tell us:
  • Your username
  • The letter(s) you'd like to claim, or the number of random letters you'd like to be assigned

You may claim as many letters as you'd like or ask us to assign you a number of random letters. However, during the first round of claims, each letter will be limited to one filler until all 26 letters are taken. Once they're all claimed, every letter will be available for multiple fills!

While letter claims are public, please keep the prompt/theme you come up with secret as well as the work you're creating until works are revealed in March.

You're allowed to come back and claim more letters as often as you'd like during the claims and creation period. If you'd like to drop a claim, please let us know by Sunday, February 25th.

CREATING YOUR FILL
After claiming a letter, you may assign any prompt to it as long as it starts with that letter. Prompts can be single words, or longer phrases or titles — whatever you'd be inspired by!

For example (and you are more than welcome to use any of the following prompts!):

laireshi claims the letter "I"
laireshi thinks of a prompt starting with "I" and chooses "It wasn't worth it."
And then laireshi writes a fic with that prompt.

faite claims the letter "C"
faite thinks of a prompt starting with "C" and chooses "Cake"
Then faite draws a picture with that prompt.

You'll have until February 28th to work on your fill in secret. Remember, there is no minimum requirement for your fills, so feel free to create small pieces and flashworks for this challenge!

SUBMITTING YOUR WORK
Once you've finished your piece, you must submit it to our AO3 Collection. Your work must have your prompt somewhere in the author's note, summary, or title.

You may request an AO3 account here. If you fear you won’t receive an invitation on time, please contact us at cap.im.events@gmail.com.

Your work must be in the collection by February 28 for it to be included. (You may also post it earlier and come back to claim more letters if you do.) As long as your fill is in the collection by the end of February 28th in any timezone, your work will be a part of the reveals!

Please do not share your work until it has been revealed.

REVEALS
Reveals will run from March 1 to March 13, when we'll reveal two letters' worth of work every day! (For example, works under the letters A and B will be revealed on day 1, C and D will be revealed on day 2, and so on).

Once your work is revealed, you're welcome to discuss and share your revealed fill! If you're sharing your piece on Tumblr, please use the #capimalphabetchallenge tag among the first 5 tags.

You can go to the Badge Claims post to pick up your badge for completing the challenge by leaving a new comment with the following information:
  • Your username
  • The link to your work (or links if you've made multiple pieces)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them below or email us at cap.im.events@gmail.com!

Current Claims

All letters have been claimed twice, but they're still open for multiple claims! Feel free to ask for any letter you'd like. (Randomly assigned letters will be skewed towards letters that have the least number of claims.)
