The Vital Question

"Who would you turn gay for?"

Tony had known it was coming, had spent several days thinking about what he was going to say. Given how famous he was, picking someone living was a decidedly risky proposition that could lead to embarrassment later on, and Tony was nothing if not forward-thinking. On the other hand, he had his pride to consider; he was Tony Stark, and he wouldn't 'turn gay' for just anyone. He'd thought and discarded dozens of possible candidates (and there was a list that would never see the light of day), but it wasn't until he caught the tail end of a late-night World War II documentary that he found his answer. The man fit all his criteria and then some.

"It's a tricky question, Rove," Tony said, and then tossed out his trademark smirk. "But let's be honest, who wouldn't turn gay for Captain America?"

It wasn't until much later, when it turned out that Captain America was very much alive (and very much just as advertised, and there was a thought that had been keeping Tony up at night recently) that he had any misgivings about the answer.

"-return of Captain America," the newsgirl was saying, some trashy entertainment program that normally wasn't worth his attention. "In the light of this announcement, we went through the archives and found something we thought you might enjoy."

"It's a tricky question, Rove," Tony-on-screen said, and smirked. "But let's be honest, who wouldn't turn gay for Captain America?"

"Well, viewers!" the newsgirl trilled. "From the mouth of Tony Stark himself, the man who is funding the Avengers, which I'm sure I don't need to remind you is led by Captain America." She leaned forward, obviously going for secrecy. "It's been kept very quiet, but our sources say that romance is in the air."

A photograph flashed up on screen, Tony in a suit and Steve in full costume, talking together on the path outside Avengers mansion, shoulders almost brushing.

"These photographs were taken yesterday, as the two men enjoyed a late afternoon stroll together."

The newsgirl flashed back on. "Neither Mr Stark or Captain America have made an official statement about their relationship, but with evidence mounting, is it just a matter of time?"

Tony groaned, turning the TV off, and thumped his head into his hands.

HUGE LOLZ. I saw a segment of that interview with RDJ, and I love the twist you had for Tony XD (Man, he must be vaguely psychic, innit? LOL)

Now I want to see Cap's reaction to the "news".

*cackles with laughter* Look on the bright side, Tony. This saves you that awkward step of trying to tell Steve you like him. he can just watch the news!

That's awesomely hilarious! And I would love to read about Steve's reaction to this too.

Hee! Awesome. :)

Bwahahahaha! very funny.

Oh, dear. All his careful strategy blown up by an iceberg. At least he gets golden bright as-advertised Steve out of it!

Cap is going to be very confused when a reporter asks him about it, hopefully SHIELD or the Avengers gave him a pop culture crash course.

[identity profile] mneiai.livejournal.com 2008-06-14 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha. Ouch. Here's Tony, thinking he's got it all figured out ^.^ You should do Steve's reaction.

PS: Who did Robert Downey Jr. say?

He said he would go gay for "The butler, Patrick", I think he was one of the guys on the set or something.

Heres the full interview, it's pretty great:

This is... this is win. :D Oh Tony. He thought he was being so clever and had it all so carefully thought out, and then Steve had to ruin it all by being alive. Not that I imagine Tony is complaining that fact at all.

And I agree with the above calls for Steve's reaction. I can imagine him being all adorably fuddly-confused by the whole thing. XD

Also, why is your username so familar?

[identity profile] axolotl-lan.livejournal.com 2008-06-14 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Giggles, this was great!~ Will we be seeing Steve's reaction? I love the pacing very short but it hits all the right spots. ^_^ Please continue fic-making!

*snort* great^^
What do we learn from that, Tony? Don´t talk to reporters...in combination with superheroes

I can't believe I haven't left feedback on this! I loved it to little bits. *grins* It actually made me literally laugh out loud, and there isn't too much fic that does that. :-)

Of course, now I desperately want to see Steve's reaction to seeing that clip. *grins* My imagination is having fun picturing the possibilities! I think blushing is a certainty, but everything else is up for grabs. (Possibly literally. :-D)
