2019 Rec Week: All New Monday!

This year, we celebrated the end of Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe together, and the Cap-IM community passed the 11 year mark! With decades of fanworks to draw on, we all have our fandom classics and the old favorites we reread. We are also a fandom that continues to grow, with new fanworks are created every day. On All-New Monday it is time to tell us about your new favorites - Steve/Tony fanworks that were posted during the last year. Anything posted after the end of the 2018 Reverse Big Bang (mid-June 2018) is fair game to be recced today! We welcome recs for fics, artwork, podfics, vids, manips, edits and more!

Note: Please mark major warnings for your recs, and if you have time, let us know why you’re reccing a work.

2019 Rec Week Themes and Schedule

All New Monday, July 15th: Works posted any time after the end of the 2018 Reverse Big Bang (mid-June).
Artful Tuesday, July 16th: A rec day highlighting fanart specifically! Come and rec all the art.
Angsty Wednesday, July 17th: Bring on all the angst!
Fluffy Thursday, July 18th: Rec your favorite warm fluff works.
Fix-It Friday, July 19th: All fix-its, all day.
Kiss-It-Better Saturday: July 20th: Hurt/Comfort of any kind.
Cap-IM Sunday, July 21st: Rec all your favorite works created for one of the Cap-Iron Man challenges!

There are several different ways to participate:

• Comment with your recs on the themed daily posts that will go up on our Dreamwidth and Livejournal communities. (Anon commenting allows everyone to participate, even if they don’t have an account.)


• Reply to each rec day’s Tumblr post that will go up on our Cap-Iron Man Tumblr with your recs.


• Make a Tumblr post with your recommendations, @ the cap-ironman Tumblr and tag it with #capimrecweek within the first five tags on the post. Please include the day’s theme somewhere in the body of the post. On the dedicated day we will reblog posts for the day’s theme on our community Tumblr and later include them in 2019 Rec Week masterlist.

I've greatly enjoyed Mizzy's new stories and want to point out these two 616 ones in particular:

If I'm Ruining You Right Now, Please Forgive Me (17942 words) by Mizzy
Summary: Tony’s definitely up to something, Steve’s sure about that. But when he follows Tony down into the unused leg of their new unconventional home, Steve isn’t expecting to discover the lengths Tony will go to try to make him happy.

inside my shell-shaped mind (18217 words) by Mizzy
Summary: Before Ikaris of the Eternals died along with the rest of his people, he gave Tony Stark the power of the Uni-Mind, a power Tony used in order to help stop the Horde from destroying the universe.
The Magistrati are the Living Tribunal's enforcers of Universal Law. They are the judges, jurors, and advocates of the universe. And Tony’s Uni-Mind ability has been judged too dangerous: he must be put to death.
Steve thinks he has a solution. To save Tony's life, he must undergo an intimate version of the Uni-Mind known as the Gann Josin, a type of bonding that creates a mental union between two people...and makes them lifelong soulmates.
Well, it's probably not the oddest way to save someone's life, but it's certainly not going to be easy. Especially when Tony seems determined that the bond should be broken, as soon as possible.
(Set just after War of the Realms #4.)

Comment: They are both set during the current comics runs, incorporating events from the solo as well as the team books, and they do a fabulous job making that world coherent and having Tony and Steve react in plausible ways while navigating their relationship and getting together. I really adore all the details, how lived in the world and the characters feel, how it's like I'm wandering around in the new base with these two. Both stories are epic and fun and weird and make wonderful use of the uni-mind device. And both have a fantastic grasp on the huge amount of history between Tony and Steve; their relationship is just wonderful in these. Both stories just made me happy.


In Your Shadow (2924 words) by magicasen
Summary: Tony thinks the mansion might be haunted. Steve's not so sure about that.

Comment: More Capwolf! With a unique take on Capwolf's headspace and lots of protectiveness and a couple of funny moments.


Waterline (12616 words) by kuro
Summary: Earth was destroyed by the last incursion, and then it was restored. Everything is the same, except that it's not. And Steve and Tony are still not talking to each other.

Comment: Fascinating post-Incursions story. Really interesting plot, which I don't want to say anything about because I don't want to spoil it. There's quite a bit of grumpy Steve (see above: post-Incursions), some lovely cameos, and a hopeful ending.

Since this was part of this year's RBB, here's the art to go with it: Sinking by dirigibleplumbing. Very atmospheric and pretty.

So many new things come under the Cap-IM Sunday category, so I guess I'll save those for later, but in the meantime some fics that I recently enjoyed very much:

Summary: Steve accidentally finds out that Tony Stark is Iron Man. He methodically and hypothetically works through what to do about it.
Comments: I think I almost cried with laughter, it was amazing! Identity porn and such a fun read.

Summary: “You know what, guys?” Tony announced, spreading his arms. “I am dating Iron Man.”

Comments:Another cracktastic take on the ol’ identity porn reveal, this time with dramatics and uncomfortable shovel talks (so, business as usual).

the girl with the modern face by isozyme (Ambiguous, 26K) MIND THE TAGS: transphobia, internalised homophobia, alcohol, violence
Summary:

“Nice to meet you. I’m Steve Rogers,” Steve said, sticking his hand out and trying to wrestle the interaction back into something normal.
“I know, sweetheart,” Tony said, ignoring his hand. “Rescue told me all about you.”
“Did you make her?” Steve asked. It had been implied that Tony was a tech-man, and she said he was her boss. It would fit together.
“Yes, the armor, that was me; she’s my bodyguard,” Tony said archly. “Impressed?”

The only good thing about the future is Tony Stark's bodyguard, Rescue. She's beautiful in her red and gold armor, and Steve will never know who she is.
Comments: It’s such a raw, poignant fic and it hurts so good! It’s. Listen there’s a reason why I haven’t commented on it yet and that’s because I have no words. But if this type of thing could be your type of thing, read it.

cold space, warm welcome by Annie D (Scaramouche) (MCU, 15K)
Summary: Tony’s spent a couple of years flying around the galaxy in his best friend Rhodey’s spaceship the Iron Advance, doing what could perhaps be counted as ‘hero’ work. Among their allies is Steve Rogers, captain of his own crew, with whom Tony has a… potentially friendly relationship.
When Steve’s ship is irreparably damaged, Rhodey takes him and his whole crew onto the Iron Advance to recover. Tony’s not at all nervous about this, because so what if this is the first time Steve will see him without the Iron Man armor?
Comments: SPACE!! With some lovely shades of oblivious idiots in love, a bumbling Steve and a grumpy Tony.

Clementine by Wikketkrikket (1872, 8.2K) MIND THE TAGS: alcohol, period-typical homophobia
Summary: Ever since he was injured and his arm badly damaged in the incident with Fisk, Steve has been staying with Tony. He helps Tony stay off the drink and keep his ribbon, and Tony helps him tie his shoelaces. They're in love, but they aren't breaking any laws. Steve is very careful about that.
Except people are starting to talk anyway, and when a new Deputy arrives in town with suspicion in his eyes things get riskier than ever.
Comments: Ahhhh so good! How Steve be in a relationship with Tony and still pine for him? A lovely happy ending for our Sheriff and blacksmith, despite some ups and downs.

Ride By My Side (the Old West remix) by runningondreams (1872, 1.7K)
Summary: For preference, Tony travels by train. But it’s hard to say no to Steve.
Comments: Moments of quiet, restrained affection and sweet melancholia wrapped in a roadtrip (or rather, a trail-trip).
