Favorite rendition of Tony and Steve
I hate these "REMOVE IF OT" labels, but I really REALLY hope this won't be taken as Off Topic in this comm...
Was wondering about which... renditions do you guys really like of Iron Man/Tony and Captain American/Steve?
The thing about the US comic industry that always struck me as interesting was the fact that we have a main character that can be shaped by any penciller in the industry. Ten artist usually resulting in ten vaguely similar looks. So far I really love what Jim Cheung and Peter Zircher brings to Tony. Bryan Hitch's Cap is also great :D

Jim Cheung's drawings for Tony in Avengers: Civil War is one of my all time favorites. ... Do I actually need to give a reason why? XD

Olivier Coipel drew Tony without a goatee for the Avengers Annual, although for the recent Thor arc he switched back to goatee!Tony.
Speaking of Olivier Coipel, was wondering something:
I know Avengers: Red Zone was publisher LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG ago, but I was wondering if you all had any good sources for online comic stores? I'm not sure why, but that is the only volume of Avengers which seems near impossible to get here. Weird O_o

For the longest time Bryan Hitch's art kept making me think Tony and Steve was in the Authority universe, but I think he was one of the rare artist who can balance photo realism with drawings really well.

Adi Granov giving fangirls a glimpse of Tony fixing his armour. I never wanted to be in a workshop and near a grease stained guy more in my life.
What other artists do you guys usually squee over? :D

Adi Granov is basically the coolest thing ever in my book. I adore how he draws the armor, especially.
Plus, look! Naked!Tony. :]

And now for the Modly part of my comment. =)
I hate these "REMOVE IF OT" labels, but I really REALLY hope this won't be taken as Off Topic in this comm...
Your post talks about Tony and Steve. Why would it be off topic?
I'm not sure what other communities you've been to, but I promise, Tro (
We created this community as a place to have fun, and just generally have a laid-back feel to it. That's hard to do if the members are worried about the mods bringing the Delete or Ban Hammer down on their heads. The biggest rule we have is that, as Tro put it, you all be excellent to each other.
As for OT posts, the general rule of thumb is that if you post contains Tony, or Steve, or both, it's on topic. If you have doubts, feel free to e-mail or message Tro or I, or just leave a comment on our journals.
We want you guys to have fun here. =] So don't be afraid to ask us about anything you're not sure about.

Jim Cheung seems to do handling more of the young avenger stuff these days. I really wish they'd let him do another one featuring the more senior members.

this is my safe refuge from all the Iron Man hate that seems so popular in other comms O_o
Most of us have both a deep and abiding love for Tony -- numerous fuck-ups and all -- and a knee-jerk defensive reaction when Tony haters surface. Trust me, I've seen the claws come out on more than one person here. Character bashing is one of the very, very few things that will get someone an InstaBan if they come here spewing vitriol in Tony's general direction.

I know! I miss his art for the other series. Come back to us, Cheung! They don't love you the way we do. D:

I love Jae Lee's depiction of Steve---he's drawn as very, very, very pretty. And I love Steve Epting's Captain America/Steve in Ed Brubaker's run.

Concerning the Red Zone: I second your request. Athough I've read volumes 1-5 of which Red Zone is three, I did so while in university and it was a housemate who was buying the comics. Idiotically, I didn't think to buy them all myself and cry 'Student loan be damned!' Sigh. Now you can't buy them for love nor money.

Adi Granov's take on the armor is the all-time best, of course. It's probably the most definitive depiction of the Iron Man armor since Don Heck decided that red and gold would be a nice color scheme.
For Steve, it's much harder to pick a favorite. Artists seem to do better getting Steve "right' than they do with Tony. I really like Steve Epting's art (he's pretty good with Tony, too), and Alex Maleev did a beautiful Steve in the Confession. I think my all-time favorite is Andy Kubert, though -- the guy who did the art for a good chunk of volume 3 of Captain America (he also did a pretty good Tony, and a very nice Sharon and Sam).
True that.
Re: True that.
The final shot of Steve lying there with the shield across his chest, posed just like that first shot of him in Avengers #4 when they pull him out of the ice, absolutely killed me. It was probably the perfect visual reference for that moment -- I'd argue that it was actually a better final shot of Steve than anything you got in Captain America or Fallen Son, because it brings things full circle from that first appearance.

...and Cap spends the entire series minus a shirt. *ahem*
