2020 Cap-Iron Man Remix Madness

While participants are working on their Remix Exchange Assignments and Relay Remixes, we bring you the third part of our Remix fest: Captain America/Iron Man Remix Madness 2020!
Madness is a low-stress, no obligation event. During Madness, you are welcome to create as many remixes as you want or feel comfortable with, from January 11th until creator reveals happen. But if you sign up and find your muse has disappeared, that's okay too!
SCHEDULE
January 11 | Remix Madness opens |
February 22 | Remix Madness closes |
February 23 | Remix Madness reveals begin |
If you're joining the Remix Madness, please make sure to read our community's General Event Policies before registering.
If you're interested in our other Remix challenges, please take a look at the Remix Event Masterpost for an overview of all our events and their schedules.
RULES
- Remix Madness is open to both writers and artists. For art, we consider sketches, illustrations, and sequential drawings as remixable fanworks. Manips, edits, and gifs are not eligible for this challenge.
- Anybody, of any age, can join in Remix Madness as long as they follow the General Remix Rules. You don't need to be participating in the Exchange or Relay to join Remix Madness, though you are certainly welcome to! However, you are expected to have finished your main assignment before working on any Madness works.
- All works offered and created for Remix Madness must follow our community's General Event Guidelines. Simply put, all fanworks must be focused on Steve and Tony (either platonically or shippy) and Steve/Tony must be the exclusive endgame, if applicable. Additionally, for the purpose of this challenge, other characters cannot be a part of the main relationship for any offered or remixed works.
- If your linked work page contains other fandoms and content not related to Steve and Tony, participants cannot ask for those works to be remixed and remixers cannot remix those works. Those works do not qualify for the challenge.
- There are no minimum requirements for remixes created for Remix Madness. You can write as few words as you'd like if you're writing or make quick sketches if you're drawing.
- You cannot remix WIPs, the designated safe fanworks, or works that were created as remixes of other works. In cases of co-created works, both creators must be okay with the possibility of the work being remixed.
SIGNING UP
Remix Madness sign-ups are treated like prompts in a prompt meme, where participants can browse and create as many remixes as strikes their fancy.
You must sign up for Remix Madness in order to create any fills for the event. There is no sign-up deadline for this challenge; you may join at any time before the assignment deadline on February 22nd.
Even if you sign up, you are not obligated to remix any work. Likewise, you are not guaranteed that anyone will create a remix for one of your works.
To join Remix Madness you must have:
- An AO3 account
- Existing Steve/Tony art or fic that can be remixed. You must have at least one eligible fanwork that you are willing to offer up for remixing. This can be a simple drabble, ficlet, or sketch.
You must provide the following information in your Request:
Find my Steve/Tony works HERE (link)
In this field, provide a link to your Steve/Tony fanworks for potential remixers. This can be a link to your Work's Page on AO3, a Tumblr tag on your blog, a compiled list of individual work links (of fanworks you would like to be remixed), or so on. To prevent links from breaking or sign-up issues, we suggest keeping your link as simple as possible (we do not recommend submitting AO3 filtered links as they do break; we advise linking to your AO3 profile or work page).
Additional Info (universes, safe works, WIPs, existing remixes, etc)
In this section, you must provide the following information in this order:
- A list of Steve/Tony universes for which you have created fanworks that are eligible for remixing. Remixers will be only allowed to choose from works tagged in universes you have listed here, and works in excluded universes will be considered ineligible and "safe fandoms" from remixes. You can, however, list all of the universes you have created work in to include them all for remixing.
- While works in "safe fandoms" cannot be remixed, that will not prevent a remixer from potentially remixing a work into that excluded canon. (For example, if you only list "MCU, EMH, Marvel Adventures," a remixer cannot remix your Avengers Assemble works, but will be able to remix any of your MCU, EMH, and Marvel Adventure works into Avengers Assemble.
- Information on ineligible remix works. This includes:
- Safe works: fanworks you do not want remixed among the works listed in the link provided above (no need to provide an explanation why). You are allowed to list up to 10 individual safe works.
- WIPs: please list your current works in progress.
- Previous Remixes: please list your past remixes or indicated how they are identified, e.g. "All remixes have 'Remix' in the title."
- Co-created Works: if it is not easy to identify co-created works, please list them.
Semi-anonymous Prompt?
AO3 provides this option by default, but because your fanworks will give your identity away, do not check off this option.
Other languages (optional)
If you would be happy to receive a remix of your work in languages other than English, please list those languages in the "Additional Info" section. Please note that this is completely optional, and we cannot guarantee that your work will be remixed into a different language.
You can find an example sign-up here.
Once you click 'Submit,' your sign-up will appear in the Collection as a prompt for any participant to see and claim. Please do not delete it after this point. Even if you do not find anything you want to remix among the Madness prompt, someone may have begun a remix of your work and it would be unfair to negate their work. There is no formal method for you to drop out. If you are not interested in creating a remix work, there is no obligation for you to create a remix, just as there is no guarantee you will get a Madness remix.
In your sign-up you cannot specify how you want your works to be remixed or limit any potential remixers. This is not a gift exchange — remixers are creating a story that is new and their own, rather than catering to the tastes of the original work. That said, bear in mind that the author of the original work will have their name attached to remix works. Do not use your remix to bash the original work or attack the creator. Do not make fun of their stories, kinks, side pairings, etc, in namespace. The challenge is creativity — rise to it!
CREATING REMIX MADNESS WORKS
To keep it fair, you can only remix someone else if you have opted in to Remix Madness, and you can only remix people who have also opted in. Opting in to have your work remixed does not obligate you to create one. There's no penalty if you can't find anything that inspires you; this is a no-pressure challenge.
Once you've opted into the challenge by signing up, you can go through all of the available prompts in the collection. Since there is no deadline to sign up, prompts can be added to the pool until February 22nd, so be sure to check back in regularly to see what additional works are available for remixing!
If you find a fanwork you want to remix, you can "claim" the Request to signal your intent to submit a fill. A claim is a way to signal to other participants that someone is already remixing a work and to let them know which other Requests might be left without a remix.
Claiming is not a requirement, and a prompt can be claimed multiple times by multiple participants. AO3 will show how many times the Request has been claimed, but until works are revealed, your claim will be anonymous to everyone but the mods.
If you're interested in remixing the same Request multiple times, you can only "claim" it once, but you can still post multiple Remixes into the Collection.
Once your remix is done, post it to the 2020 Captain America/Iron Man Remix Madness to be included as part of the challenge.
Please link to the original story as a related work, under Associations > "This work is a remix, a translation, a podfic, or was inspired by another work." Detailed instructions on how to do this can be found here. For further help using AO3, please refer to our AO3 Guide.
The collection will be closed on February 22nd.
REVEALS
The Remix Madness collection is scheduled to be opened and revealed on February 23rd. Do not share your remix works before then, and do not reveal your identity when the collection is still 'Anonymous.'
If you have any additional questions about Remix Madness or need assistance with signing up, please refer to the Remix FAQ, comment below, or contact the mods at cap.im.events@gmail.com!
