Launching: The Cap-Iron Man Pinch Hitter List

Cap-Iron Man Pinch Hitter List

Previously, cap-ironman asked for pinch hitters at the start and during each of its events. We are now consolidating our pinch hitters into one place to make it easier to sign up as a pinch hitter and so that we know there are always dedicated, wonderful people waiting at the wings, ready to save the day!

What is a pinch hit and what does pinch hitting mean?

You may have heard the terms "pinch-hitting" and "PHer" bandied around when talking about fandom challenges and events (or in sport, as the name is derived from baseball).

In fandom events where participants are assigned to each other, each participant is due a(t least one) fanwork(s) from another participant. A pinch hit is a fanwork which is produced for a request that either can't be matched in the initial assignment-matching period, or because the assigned participant can't complete their assignment in time.

Pinch hitting means that you are stepping in to replace someone else, usually at very short notice, so that you can help to ensure that every participant will have their request fulfilled or have a partner in an event. Pinch hitters are valued members of the cap-ironman community, and are relied upon to help events run smoothly.

How does pinch hitting differ from event to event?

Every cap-ironman event has different event requirements and guidelines. For example, in the 2020 Cap-IM Remix Relay event, "Fic must be at least 500 words and no longer than 8,000 words. Art must be digitally or traditionally drawn images or fully realized sketches".

When a pinch hit is sent out, we specify which event it is for and link to its guidelines. All details about pinch hit fill requirements and deadlines will be included in the email you receive.

Some cap-ironman events are open to both artists and writers, while some pinch hits will require only one type of creator (for example, if a Reverse Bang writer drops out of the event, another writer will be asked to pinch hit for the event, so that the art would have an accompanying story).

If you don’t want to sign up for a cap-ironman event, but still want to participate, consider signing up as a pinch hitter!

Awesome, how can I sign up as a pinch hitter?

To sign up to be a pinch hitter for any cap-ironman event, fill out the google form below.

If, as a pinch hitter, you want to post your work yourself, an AO3 account is required. If you don't have an AO3 account and are willing to have your work posted by the cap-ironman mod account, you can still be a pinch hitter. Special credits and links will be included after an event's anon period.

The requests which need a pinch hitter are emailed out and pinch hits are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis.

What if I sign up as a pinch hitter and then can't claim a pinch hit?

By signing up to the Pinch Hitter list, you are saying that you would like to be notified via email when we have an unfulfilled request or a participant who's lost their partner in a collaborative event. You are not required to claim any pinch hit that is sent your way; pinch hitting is completely voluntary — but there's always a chance that you'll come across the perfect prompt and feel inspired to make someone very happy!

We will be checking in with our list members to make sure that they are still happy to be contacted about cap-ironman pinch hits. Additionally, you may contact the mods at cap.im.mods@gmail.com at any stage to remove yourself from the Cap-IM Pinch Hitter List.

The signup asks for username. Is that AO3 username, or Dreamwidth?
