*pops head in*

A little while back, there was some discussion regarding Tony's birthday, and whether or not he officially had one. So far it looks like he doesn't, so if anyone's interested in a uniform fanon birthday for him, I'd like to suggest May 11. It's the birthday of Richard Feynman, the physicist who's credited with introducing the concept of nanotechnology. I thought it was fitting. Hey, if Steve can have a cheesy birthday, Tony can have one, too. *g*

Feel free to post your own ideas. Of course, if anyone can contribute his official birthday, that'll work, too. *g*

Sounds good!

Whenever I'm doing character bios, I always base it on how their star sign aligns with their personality. Which is kind of stupid, since I don't believe in astrology, but anyway...

May 11 would make him a Taurus. According to this website (http://www.psychicguild.com/horoscopes_explained.php), they :
-will let others get close, but only so close as they want them.
-manage to operate very adequately on their own form of automatic pilot, they can switch off from the world around them very efficiently
-strive to create tomorrow in advance, rather than leave it to fate

I like both the anniversary of the date and the star sign personality thing! Assuming Marvel doesn't actually have a listed birthday for Tony, I'd go for that :)

Another "similar character" possibility would be borrowing Howard Hughes' birthday. (Who's been, IIRC, widely acknowledged as an inspiration for the character. Not that I have anything against Feynman, mind, because he rocks.) December 24th, which means Tony can bitch about "why did you get a holiday, I missed Christmas by one day."

Astrologically speaking, that sticks him on the cusp of Sagittarius and Capricorn, leaning a little more Capricorn. Sag the quick-minded, never-satisfied, always-moving wit, flexible and innovative and maybe a little out of control; Capricorn the down-to-earth, proud, ambitious, subtle businessman and politician. I think it actually sums up one of Tony's inner inconsistencies pretty well.

Unfortunately, as we can't even pin a year of birth--thanks, elastic timeline!--it's impossible to get more than just his sun sign. Steve we can at least get his planets, including moon sign, which is Capricorn. Which I find fascinating. But I digress.

...what? I live in witch city! I've actually been contemplating getting my more astrologically inclined housemate--I just know the bare basics--to do a detailed look at Steve's chart for to make a random obsessive post.

I second the vote for Huges' birthday; he was probably the earliest influence on the development of Tony's character, and Tony canonically fanboys him, and would be mildly embarrassed by being born on Christmas Eve.

Plus, Tony's always struck me as a winter birth, for absolutely no specific reason I could point to.

Eee! That would be so cool.

And Tony having a Christmas Eve birthday would be spiffy, 'cause then it could lead to all sorts of romantic fluffyness.

I really like May 11. It does sound like a good day. I've got a feeling I once read another day somewhere but I can't find or remember where. I probably imagined it. That said, May 11 sounds perfect, both for the explanations given in the post and in the comments.

Personally, I'd give Tony a late-March birthday, since the very first issue of Iron Man ever was published in the March 1963 issue of Tales of Suspense, and Tony would make a good Aries (determined, driven, and confident, a high sex drive, hates to admit failure, issues with self-control and a tendancy to depression... and plus, the color for Aries is "red"). I'm leaning towards March 23, because that's when rocket scientist Wernher Von Braun was born.

Hughes' birthday would also work -- hey, a Christmas eve birthday would explain why we never see anyone celebrate it in canon ^_^, as would May 11th, for all the reasons others have given. I'll also offer May 21, the birthday of early aviation pioneer Glenn Curtiss, as an alternative May birthday option.

all these days sound reasonable.... i kind of like dec 24th myself (it has nothing to do with the fact that he'd be born on the same day as hellboy >.>)

maybe we should have a poll... with all the reasons for each day ^___^

there is an awesome fic i have in my head if dec 24th is it :D
