2022 Cap-Iron Man Remix Madness Guidelines

Madness is a low-stress, no obligation event. During Madness, all creators are welcome to create as many remixes as they want, from December 5 until February 20. But if you sign up and find your muse has disappeared, that's okay too!

SCHEDULE

January 10Remix Madness opens
February 20Remix Madness closes
February 20Remix Madness reveals begin

If you're joining the Remix Madness, please make sure to read our community's General Event Guidelines first.

If you're interested in our other Remix challenges, take a look at the Remix Event Information Masterpost.

RULES (click to expand)

  • Remix Madness is open to all creators.

  • Anybody, of any age, can join in Remix Madness. However, we ask that you only pick works to remix that are age-appropriate. Heed ratings and warnings.

  • You don't need to be participating in the Exchange or Relay to join Remix Madness, though you are certainly welcome to join both! However, you are expected to have finished your main assignment before working on any Madness works.

  • There are no minimum requirements for remixes created for Remix Madness. You can create a work that is as short or long as you like

  • You cannot remix:
    • WiPs
    • designated safe fanworks
    • works that were created as remixes of other works

In cases of co-created works (i.e. where multiple people collaborated to create a single work. RBBs and BBs do not count as co-created), both creators must be signed up.

  • All works offered and created for Remix Madness must follow our community's General Event Guidelines. Simply, all fanworks must be focused on Steve and Tony (whether in a platonic or romantic context) and Steve/Tony must be the exclusive endgame, if applicable. Other characters cannot be a part of the main relationship for any offered or remixed works.
    • If your linked work page contains other fandoms and content not related to Steve and Tony, participants cannot ask for those works to be remixed and remixers cannot remix those works. Those works do not qualify for Remix Madness.

SIGNING UP (click to expand)

Remix Madness sign-ups are treated like prompts in a prompt meme, where participants can browse and create as many remixes as strike their fancy.

You must sign up for Remix Madness in order to create fills. There is no sign-up deadline for this challenge; you may join at any time until the start of creator reveals.

Signing up does not obligate you to remix any work. Likewise, you are not guaranteed a remix for one of your works if you sign up.

By signing up, you are explicitly giving permission for any of your completed Stevetony works (see exceptions below) to be transformed by another fanworker, regardless of whether you have a fanwork permission statement or not. We do recommend that you consider having a statement as part of your AO3 profile, and have provided some examples in our resource post.

To join Remix Madness you must have:
  • An AO3 account
  • At least one eligible SteveTony fanwork that you are willing to offer up for remixing. This can be a drabble, podfic, graphic edit, sketch, fanvid etc.

Sign up for Remix Madness on AO3

You must provide the following information in your Request:

Find my SteveTony works HERE (link)
In this field, provide a link to your SteveTony fanworks for potential remixers. This can be a link to your AO3 profile, a Tumblr tag on your blog, a compiled list of individual work links of fanworks you would like to be remixed, etc. Please do not submit AO3 filtered links as they do break.

Additional Info (universes, safe works, WIPs, existing remixes, etc)

In this section, you must provide the following information in this order:
  • A list of universes for which you have created SteveTony fanworks that are eligible for remixing. Remixers will be only allowed to choose from works tagged in universes you have listed here, and works in excluded universes will be considered "safe fandoms" and thus ineligible for remixing.
    • While works in "safe fandoms" cannot be remixed, that will not prevent a remixer from potentially remixing a work into that excluded canon. (For example, if you only list "MCU, EMH, Marvel Adventures," a remixer cannot remix your Avengers Assemble works, but will be able to remix any of your MCU, EMH, and Marvel Adventure works into Avengers Assemble.

  • Information on ineligible remix works. This includes:
    • Safe works: fanworks you do not want remixed (no need to provide an explanation why). You are allowed to list up to 10 individual safe works.

    • WiPs: please list your current works in progress.

    • Previous Remixes: please list your past remixes or indicate how they are identified, e.g. "All remixes have 'Remix' in the title."

    • Co-created Works: if it is not easy to identify co-created works, please list them.

Semi-anonymous Prompt?
AO3 provides this option by default — please do not check off this option.

Other languages (optional)
If you would be happy to receive a remix of your work in languages other than English, please list those languages in the "Additional Info" section. Please note that this is optional, and we cannot guarantee that your work will be remixed into a different language.

You can find an example sign-up here.

Once you click 'Submit,' your sign-up will appear in the Collection as a Request for any participant to see and claim. Please do not delete it after this point. We ask that you do not delete your sign-up as someone may have begun a remix of your work and it would be unfair to negate their work.

In your sign-up you cannot specify how you want your works to be remixed or limit any potential remixers. This is not a gift exchange — remixers are creating a work that is new and their own, rather than catering to the tastes of the original work. That said, bear in mind that the author of the original work will have their name attached to remix works. Do not use your remix to bash the original work or attack the creator. Do not make fun of their works, kinks, side pairings, etc. The challenge is creativity — rise to it!

CREATING REMIX MADNESS WORKS (click to expand)

You can only remix someone else if you have signed up to Remix Madness, and you can only remix people who have also signed up. Signing up to have your work(s) remixed does not obligate you to create any remixes, just as there is no guarantee that your work will be remixed. There's no penalty if you can't find anything that inspires you; this is a no-pressure challenge.

Once you've signed up, you can go through all of the available Requests in the collection. Since there is no deadline to sign up, Requests can be added to the pool until February 20, so be sure to check back in regularly to see what additional works are available for remixing!

View all of the Remix Madness Requests on AO3 after signups open on December 5

If you find a fanwork you want to remix, you can "claim" the Request to signal your intent to submit a fill. A claim is a way to let other participants know that someone is already remixing a work. This way, participants can more easily identify Requests that might be left without a remix.

Claiming is not a requirement, and a Request can be claimed multiple times by multiple participants. AO3 will show how many times the Request has been claimed, but until works are revealed, your claim will be anonymous to everyone but the mods.

If you're interested in remixing the same Request multiple times, you can only "claim" it once on AO3, but you can still post multiple remixes inspired by the Request to the AO3 Collection.

Once your remix is done, post it to the 2022 Captain America/Iron Man Remix Madness before February 20 to be included as part of the challenge.

Please link to the original story as a related work when posting on AO3, under the 'Associations' section: "This work is a remix, a translation, a podfic, or was inspired by another work." Detailed instructions on how to do this can be found here in our AO3 Guide, which also includes instructions on how to post to a collection, embed images and more.

REVEALS (click to expand)

Works from all our remix challenges will be revealed from 20 February onward. Remixes will be revealed in stages. Remember to maintain your anonymity until after your work has been revealed.

You are welcome and encouraged to link, share and recommend works while they are still anonymous, as long as you do not reveal who the creators are when doing so! After creators have been revealed, you are welcome to crosspost and share your works anywhere.

If you have any additional questions about Remix Madness or need assistance with signing up, please refer to the Remix FAQ, check out this year's event guidelines, email cap.im.events@gmail.com or get in touch another way!
