I literally squeeded when I saw this on S_D. Sadly, my logically (pessimistic?) side says that it's a What If? special, because Marvel said they were going to do some more of those.

Still, whatever it is, I'm glad to see Marvel isn't leaving us fangirls high and dry.

They've done it before... the cover of Avengers #69 shows Tony supporting Cap in a pieta pose. Sadly they are both shriveled by plague and not very pretty.

[Um, this may have turned into a minor rant. It's just my opinion and none of this is meant personally towards anyone.]

There's nothing wrong with it, per se, it's just that I don't find their way of engaging in fandom to be enjoyable, personally.

Which is a diplomatic way of saying I find them nasty, negative, overall very prejudiced against certain characters (including my favorites), and unnecessarily snarky.

I don't think they're nasty people or anything, I think they just find mocking things fun. And I really, really, really don't find mocking things fun. I tried to go on that board a half a dozen times and every single time I left if feeling hurt, isolated, and/or angry. So I've learned not to go there. It's not my kind of space.

*nods* What she said. Things may be better now, but the Iron Man hate there during and immediately after Civil War was literally sickening (as in, it actually made me feel nauseous).

But then, I have absolutely no objectivity where certain comics characters are concerned, and way too much emotional investment. Current run Captain America actually makes me physically ill.

I would in all seriousness sell my immortal soul to have that be hurt/comfort (rather than deathfic), mainline 616 canon, and the cover of the issue where Steve comes back and rejoins the Avengers.

I wish I could still let myself believe that that's possible -- but I know it has to be an AU what-if picture they're releasing just to raise fans' hopes so they can brutally crush them again (okay, maybe it's not just Brubaker I'm starting to get bitter at these days).

Even so, the picture is 100X awesome. It's like someone reached deep inside my soul and pulled out all my kinks and drew them in pretty, pretty color. Steve! Tony! Cradling!
