I literally squeeded when I saw this on S_D. Sadly, my logically (pessimistic?) side says that it's a What If? special, because Marvel said they were going to do some more of those.

Still, whatever it is, I'm glad to see Marvel isn't leaving us fangirls high and dry.

Actually, the What If? That's coming out next (they do like one a year, right?) is What If the Runaways became the Young Avengers? The costume designs are scary, but it should be fun. :) (You can probably find the preview art on S_D, it was posted around the time of SDCC.)

I would in all seriousness sell my immortal soul to have that be hurt/comfort (rather than deathfic), mainline 616 canon, and the cover of the issue where Steve comes back and rejoins the Avengers.

I wish I could still let myself believe that that's possible -- but I know it has to be an AU what-if picture they're releasing just to raise fans' hopes so they can brutally crush them again (okay, maybe it's not just Brubaker I'm starting to get bitter at these days).

Even so, the picture is 100X awesome. It's like someone reached deep inside my soul and pulled out all my kinks and drew them in pretty, pretty color. Steve! Tony! Cradling!

It's both incredibly amazingly cool and sweet, and horribly scary at the same time. Tony/Steve hurt/comfort, yes, YAY! - but anything with character death, NOOO!

Did you read the first Civil War What If? The second story (I think it's titled 'What If Iron Man lost the Civil War'; though that's not really what happened) has Tony telling Steve the truth (that he needs help) and they live happily ever after (in a manly comic kind of way). :D
