Is that the sound of AWESOME I hear?

Hey there fandom! How are you today? We here at Pandax_Pro just noticed something! Has anyone been keeping tabs on the Members number over on the profile page? Well guess what! Cap_Ironman has acquired 300 members!

Well technically the number is 301 right now, but two people's names are crossed out which means their journals were deleted and we have 299 members still, but either way...
WE ARE ALL MADE OF WIN!

Pandax_Pro feels we should have a 300-themed celebration! \ o / just for shits and giggles and the fact that Panda really wants to see Steve and Tony in Greek armor, and to kick it all off we present to you FANART!

THIS IS FABULOUS. Because I just started writing a historical AU made of CRACK, but it's actually Roman, not Greek. Same difference, right? Hehe. ;) But yeah, now you guys may have motivated me to finish it! Because the world needs more of Steve in hot Roman armor.

*pokes* Hehe, we should talk - great minds think alike apparently because I've been working on a Roman!AU too. Doh! We should check that they're not too similar (if only because I'll want to read something different than what I've written ^_~).

Hehe, we're awesome! :D Mine's got Steve as a Prefect in the 12th Legion during Ceaser's rise to power (which would technically segue into 13th, but upon watching Rome reruns the other day I decided to let it stay historically inaccurate so it doesn't sound like I'm ripping Rome totally) and eventually meet Tony, who's an engineer working on various projects (mostly in the Forum). Although in the story they're Titus and Marcus. (there aren't really Roman analogues of their names at all, Antony is the closest you get to Tony's, but that was a cognomen, which is essentially a last name and was kind of a weird and uncommon one.)

Hijinks ensue, of the historically wrong kind (two high ranking men around the same age wouldn't of had a relationship, or if they did, they would probably end up with some serious slander because of it. Teh ghey was only cool in a pedastric sense at this point in time.) and there's lots of angst and woe because it's Rome, and it's Rome during political upheaval, so there's got to be LOTS OF EMO ANGST. And I seem incapable of writing happy stories at the moment. (This post has been more of a history lesson than a plot sum-up. D'oh. D:)

And Nick Fury is there somehow. I haven't worked out how he fits in yet, but hey. You can't have a cracked out AU without Fury. And now I'm totally psyched to read yours! :)

*BIG GRIN* Yay, now I don't feel like such a history dork ^_^ Mine's set during Trajan's reign. Tony's a young praetorian who's been appointed to the general's staff (btw, Furius! ^_^) in the Legio I Minervia in Lower Germania where Steve is a soldier (haven't decided on rank). Tony becomes Antonianus (an agnomen/nickname) and Steve becomes Starnus (a made-up latinization of a barbarian name)

Hijinks and plottishness ensue, particularly in the form of barbarian attacks. I touch a little bit on the uncoolness of being... err, receptive in teh ghey relationships. Most of my story takes place in Germania but there is also an assassination plot - it's Ancient Rome, they're practically required ^_^

Yay! It sounds like our stories are going to be pretty different - I can't wait! This is going to be so cool. I love AUs! ^_^

Omg, awesome! Lol, Trajan. I have always loved his name, and I have no idea why, but it is fabulous. Also, in the span of time between writing my other comment and now this one, I started writing again and was like "OMG I CAN CALL HIM FURIUS! :D" And then I saw your comment and was like "Great minds think alikeX2!"

Yeah, mine takes place mostly in Rome with a heavy dose of Piper (which is literally just Pepper in Latin, lol) and Jarvis, who I don't have a name for yet. I was thinking of calling him "Battle Butler" in Latin just for the sheer awesome factor, haha. And Furius, and his loyal man Rufus who just happens to be the Gaul version of Dugan. And the Howling Legionaries. Oh yeah, the crack is strong in this fic. 8D

Don't worry, you are never alone in the history geekness, hehe. I spent a good 15 minutes thinking over what to call Steve because I wanted him to remain a commoner to some extent, but in making him a higher rank, it would suggest that he came from a higher class and had quite a bit of money. I was like "Stay true to the history or the character?! Arg, my brain!"

I think the worst (best) part was that I started writing this after I wrote about 7 100 word drabbles that were all historical AUs with Steve and Tony and spanned from The New Kingdom in Egypt all the way to WWII. (This is what happens when you stay up late doing art history homework with Atonement on in the background.) And I even wrote one about the French Revolution, and it was stupidly fun, haha. :)

*grins* Pepper = Pipera for me (isn't "piper" a masc. noun?). You can steal my copout for Jarvis if you want - sort of what I did for Steve, I just made his name a Latinized form of a foreign name, much more flexibility that way, and called him Iarvus (I for J for that extra historicity ^_~)

You could make Titus from an equestrian family that's down on its luck - noble bloodline, empty coffers sort of thing. After all, didn't Julius Caesar grow up in the Subura?

And oh! Are you going to post the drabbles? Because that would be just about the most awesome thing ever!

[identity profile] smilingskull.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Piper is a masculine noun, but I have a little back story where she's feisty and hotheaded and Marcus ends up giving her a guy-ish nickname because she's not your traditional definition of feminine. :) Plus, it balances out the fact that her real name is Kore for me, which is just about as girly as you can get. I actually started sarcastically using 'Jarvus' as a placeholder for Jarvis while trying to think up a name for him, and now he's that in my head, so I'm afraid that may be what he finishes the fic as, haha.

I ended up going with an ambiguous thing for Titus, like you get the feeling that he may have come from a family that used to be better off, but he's been hanging around with Marcus long enough to essentially be part of the upper class at this point, and he is a high enough rank that he'd have a decent amount of money on his own. He's not as true to Steve as I would have liked, but his personality doesn't transfer super well to upper class Rome (Tony's sure as hell does, however.)

And I may or may not have included Carol in the story as an ex-Vestal Virgin. I'm using "authoritative handwaving: or, the Gods did it" as an excuse for everyone's powers. And I HAD to have Thor somehow, so along came Mars. Because, again. This is as cracktastic as possible.

And I threw in Jan, and now it's just become an origins story. And less emo. But still full of senatorial insanity! Because, as you said, it's ancient Rome. Nothing says Rome like the senate acting behind everyone else's backs, assassination plots and crazy Emperors! (Dude. I totally should move this forward a few decades and have like Nero or Caligula as the Emperor. I love me some tyrannical/psycho Emperors.)

I may post the drabbels, we'll see. They are, honest to god, the crackiest things ever that are over the top ridiculous.

[identity profile] caduceus03.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if anyone could pull it off it'd be Pepper/Piper ^_^

But OMG - you're using the pantheon as actual characters? That is made of cracktastic WIN!! I'm a little to married to realism, at least attempted, in my stories so the idea of a more fantastic approach is so utterly awesome to me *big grin* Of course, now you have me imagining a reinterpretation of Rome in the same way Hercules: TLJ and Xena reinterpreted Greek mythology! XD I'm not sure that's what you meant...

Pooooost them! If there's anything I've learned it's that if you write something self-indulgent, chances are other fans will love it too. ^_^

[identity profile] smilingskull.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
It is made of crack, haha. I wanted it to be really realistic and historical, but then I was like "well, if this is an origins story, I need Thor. And how the heck do I explain Carol's powers? I know! Bestowed upon her by Vesta! And I can use variations of that for Jan and Hank too! :D But who do I use as Thor..." and then yeah. I used Mars because of the Mars/Jupiter Thor/Odin parallel more than what they're the gods of (if I had gone off of that, it would have made more sense to use Jupiter, but eh. Mars it is.) So now I officially have a god in my story, which makes it MADE OF CRACK.

Alright, I'll post 'em. :) I'll have to run a quick edit, but the they shall be up soon.

And just because you brought up Trajan, and my mind is in a typesetting place right now...

[identity profile] elspethdixon.livejournal.com 2008-10-17 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking of calling him "Battle Butler" in Latin just for the sheer awesome factor, haha. And Furius, and his loyal man Rufus who just happens to be the Gaul version of Dugan. And the Howling Legionaries. Oh yeah, the crack is strong in this fic.

I hereby nominate "Battle Butler" as the best AU name for Jarvis ever. It reminds me of Space Butler in Excel Saga.

[identity profile] elspethdixon.livejournal.com 2008-10-17 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I kind of worship both of you right now.

[identity profile] caduceus03.livejournal.com 2008-10-17 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
^_^ I admit, it was totally your desire for Roman!AU pr0n that inspired me. I was totally going to just write pr0n but then I found myself figuring out backstory and it kinda snowballed from there. *grins*

lol thanks! also AWESOME drabbles! (i have to go review them respectfully :P)
