okay. have read lots, but haven't gotten to civil war yet. what i need to know is, what's going on now? in the comics. is there an avengers comic atm? what's tony doing? what happened after? can i get a quick summary? it'll lead to fic, hopefully...most likely, okay, yeah, i'm gonna write it.

and speaking of writing, anyone want a co-author? i miss writing with a partner.

If you're at CW, then yeah, a lot has gone on since. :) At the moment we're in the back half of Marvel's current big company crossover, which is called Secret Invasion. Basically, a bunch of Skrulls have been stealthily infiltrating various teams, and Spiderwoman and Hank Pym were revealed to be Skrulls. Issue #7 (of 8 total) is coming out on Wednesday. After this there's going to be a new status quo in the MU, which going to be called Dark Reign. (Sort of like how post-CW series are labeled The Initiative.)

There are currently two Avengers teams, but the lines between the two, which were super defined at one point (The Mighty Avengers are the gov't sanctioned team lead by Tony who are always trying to arrest the rouge, underground group lead by Luke Cage, the New Avengers) are starting to blur with Sekrit!Invasion going on, because pretty much all of the major MU heroes (except for the X-men, who are STILL dealing with post M-Day stuff) are fighting Skrulls, including Nick Fury and Thor, who were previously MIA/presumed dead before SI.

So basically things are fucked, Tony's a mess (he's just come off a virus eating up his tech and nearly getting his ass kicked by a mutated teenager) and Cap's still dead.

Tony had two ongoing series, Invincible Iron Man and Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. but the DoS series was just handed over to War Machine, so now he's just got Invincible Iron Man, which just finished up a 6 issue arc where he beat the aforementioned mutated teenager, Zeke Stane. There is an ongoing Captain America series that just finished Burbaker's huge ass 42 issue arc dealing with the death of Steve and the fallout/aftermath, but that's all about Bucky (with a side of Sam and the Black Widow and some random Carol), which is not a bad thing, but not really Steve related at all.

If you want happy, awesome, and made of sheer win, I'd suggest reading Marvel Adventures: Avengers, where the Avengers get along, everyone is friends, alive, and rockin', the villains are hysterically cool/bad and Steve and Tony go on dates and play basketball together. :)

Re: yikes

Haha, smart to avoid the X-men. The only thing you need to know about Wolvie is that he's on about 8 different teams currently (including the New Avengers).

As for getting Steve back, your best bet is to ignore SI completley and set it sometime after CW, I think. Or just ignore both and assume that Steve's still around and everyone is hunky-dory. That's where Marvel Adventures: Avengers comes in handy. :)

CW and SI still try to confuse me, and I've been playing catch up. I'll leave the main explanations to those more savvy than I am.

But I'm always looking to play around co-writing with others. You can email me at hockeyiris AT livejournal.com if you want.

now i wish there was an icon that flashed between: sekrit!invasion: a synopsis -&- Things are still fucked, Tony's a mess, and Cap's still dead.

God i wish they'd bring Cap back ;___;

If I knew how to animate icons, I'd be all over that!

[identity profile] pandanoai.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
if you get a chance to make the two panels i'd animate it :P

[identity profile] smilingskull.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Done! :D (It turned into 4 panels for the sake of space) With two different versions, even.

The Mighty Avengers are the gov't sanctioned team lead by Tony who are always trying to arrest the rouge, underground group lead by Luke Cage, the New Avengers

Strictly speaking, the Mighty Avengers are actually led by Carol (Ms. Marvel). It's just that, since they work for the government, they answer to SHIELD, which answers to Tony, so it often looks like the Mighty Avengers are led by Tony. But Carol has had some minor angst over him interfering with her leading her team, so I thought the hairsplitting was necessary. *g*

(Also, unless you meant that the New Avengers are all vaguely red colored, I believe that should be "rogue", not "rouge".)

Otherwise, awesome summary! :-D

Ha! Joy!

Thanks for the frames :D

A perfect synopsis if there ever was one <3 (wait.... that kind of makes me sad ;__; stupid marvel >__<)

[identity profile] bride-of-lister.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
So awesome! Can I snag with credit? To both of you?

[identity profile] pandanoai.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
fine on my part <3-- lol

[identity profile] dorcas-gustine.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
There's also Avengers/Invaders, which I don't know where it fits exactly in the continuity (it's definitely post-CW, though), but it has Invaders!Steve travelling to the future, and then we have this (http://pics.livejournal.com/dorcas_gustine/pic/000zyb34). Oh, Tony.

And then Tony takes Invaders!Steve away from everybody and proceeds to angst about his Steve in front of Invaders!Steve which frankly is a little confused but seems to believe him.

Oh, the angst. No, seriously you should check it out.

Wow, I am so internet illiterate, how do you save animated icons? D:

[identity profile] johanirae.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
I guess you got a pretty good idea from what's happened so far, but yeah, it can be summarized as:

Superheroes were happy (There's skrulls, but you dunno it!)

Civil War happens. Half of em don't mind the register. Half of em hate it. (There are still skrulls, but you dunno it!) There's a huge battle. Cap loses and Cap gets shot. Dead. Dammit. ;_;

Tony gets elected to become Director Of SHIELD. Plus he's still owns his company. Plus he's part of Mighty Avengers. Plus he's got Extremis. But he's emo, because of Cap is still not revived. *waits* And also because there are more people shooting at him and telling him it's all his fault. And yeah there's skrulls... but mainly because Cap is dead.

And for the future? Marvel is saying in their usual lovely way "It will get worse" *sigh*

[identity profile] johanirae.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Man, these icons make me sad... but AWESOMENESS. Can snag with credit?

[identity profile] helva2260.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
...But he's emo, because of Cap is still not revived. *waits* And also because there are more people shooting at him and telling him it's all his fault. And yeah there's skrulls... but mainly because Cap is dead.

And also because he's trying to hold down at least three people's worth of full time work instead of his usual two!

just right click- save image as- should work... is that not working?

[identity profile] pandanoai.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
sounds good to me! :D

[identity profile] ethnos44.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
But I'm sure Steve will be back till 2010.

Cause he's movie comes out at 2010.

Yeah, it gets worse

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know how much more Stark is going to take until he cracks.
ext_18328: (Default)

Weighs in

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, in addition, Stark is a part of the Illuminati, some of the most powerful guys in the Marvelverse, like Strange, Xavier, Namor, Richards (I think, I have the tp, but haven't read it as yet) where he tried to get them to back the Superhero Registration Act.

I don't want Tony going back to the bottle again. I know that he's probably eye balling Johnny Walker, but no.

Personally, I'm sitting out Secret Invasion, because I can't stand the Skrulls. They had an arc with them in the 90s, and this one seems similar to that one, sooo... *whistles*.

Marvel Adventures: Avengers and Marvel Adventures: Ironman are jolly fun. The art is crisp, the colours are bright, the stories are engaging, and there's no tortured story arc to follow. Tony Stark in MA:I is too cool! He's kinda like a mix of the the movie version (that sort of restless intellect, with the eye for shiny! things) and the old TOS version (good heart, loves his friends, loyal). I prefer the digests to the actual individual comic books, but I take what I get.

[identity profile] smilingskull.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoops, thanks! I kinda forget that Carol's actually team leader, even thought that was established like way back when. I blame it on my BLINDING!RAGE at current comics, hehe. ;)

Total laugh at the red colored, by the way! Doesn't everyone (kinda on both teams) have a costume that's red/yellow/gold/back, or some version of that? Someone (besides Danny and Peter) needs to bring some color into the mix! I demand the return of Luke's old costume.

Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. but the DoS series was just handed over to War Machine, so now he's just got Invincible Iron Man

Oh that figures. [livejournal.com profile] ellyr_in_ink *just* picked a subscription that involved Iron Man, so of course she picked DOS.

Gotta remember to tell her she may want to cancel that.
Of Course granted no Marvel comics ever makes sense on its own, so maybe not -_-

[identity profile] hockeyiris.livejournal.com 2008-10-21 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
snagging, crediting. You beat me to the animating.

[identity profile] ellyr-in-ink.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Damn straight. You KNOW Marvel can't miss out on that marketing opportunity.

Bastards.

I kinda forget that Carol's actually team leader, even thought that was established like way back when.

Heh. Yeah, I think Tony forgets that she's team leader, too, sometimes. He's...just a bit of a control freak. :-D

Total laugh at the red colored, by the way! Doesn't everyone (kinda on both teams) have a costume that's red/yellow/gold/back, or some version of that? Someone (besides Danny and Peter) needs to bring some color into the mix! I demand the return of Luke's old costume.

You know, I never thought of it, but you're right! Geez, when did that happen? Apparently red, yellow, gold, and black are the designated cool colors and any superhero who wears something else is cheesy. Except Peter, who will never not be cool. *g*
