*flail*

Well, I just checked my f-list, saw a post at [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily  about a new Marvel solicitation.....and my jaw dropped.

It´s the Sentient Armor!  Really - look at the helmet-design and the glowy shoulder thing - that, ladies and gentlemen, is the Sentient Armor Design!

*flail*
Yay, I loooove that storyline. That would be so fantastic, yeah!

...also, why is Namor wearing something other than his speedo?

(Dear mods, I know that this isn´t really Steve/Tony material...but I had to do it!.
I feel the bunnies breeding. Yeah!

Nope, afraid not...

Hey all,

Sorry to rain on the parade, but that's not the AI armor.

(Believe me, I wish it was!)

That is the "Heroes Return" armor, which was the immediate predecessor to the AI armor. Notice the segmented shoulder plates; those are the most prominent difference between the Heroes Return armor and the AI armor. Otherwise, they look VERY similar.

Heroes Return armor:

AI (or "Safe") armor:
http://www.advancediron.org/general-purpose-iron-man-armors/mark-18-the-safe-armor

Note that the Heroes Return armor is not to be confused with the ugly, yucky Heroes Reborn armor, which came before the Heroes Return armor and existed in a wacky alternate universe, thanks to Onslaught and Franklin Richards. (Long, lame story.) Just for reference, this is the Heroes Reborn armor:

http://www.advancediron.org/general-purpose-iron-man-armors/mark-15-heroes-reborn-armor

Look at the armor Tony is putting on at the end of Invincible Iron Man #9. Some liberties have been taken with the drawing, but it has the segmented shoulder pads of the Heroes Return armor. The AI armor has smooth shoulderpads, so... yeah... sorry to take the wind outta everyone's sails.

Me, I'd love to see the return of the AI armor, AND the Hypervelocity Tony2.0, and have them both meet Tony. WOW, that would rock.

*sniffles* You are right.

And the peeps who drew that picture are SUPER-DORKS. But I love them for their obsessive attention to armor detail. :D

You're right. Damn. Living Armor is about the only thing other than Steve & Tony making out on the cover that could have gotten me to read Fraction's title at this point, too.

Re: Nope, afraid not...

[identity profile] greboguru.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
But Fraction's IM is so good. Best its been in years.

Not really.

Yes really.

Re: Nope, afraid not...

There are a large number of us that don't think Fraction's run as been very good. The characterizations are off, good ideas are used badly, Pepper has seemingly forgotten her late husband and her adopted children and instead of being kick ass on her own as to have 'powers'. And why the hell didn't we get anything with Tony dealing with the fact that Jarvis whose practically a father to him was a skrull and a true reunion with the real Jarvis.

I don't like the idea that Tony has to be kicked further into the ground to 'redeem' him. I happen to think Extermis was a fucking cool thing and loved Warren Ellis run, and don't like him being striped of it. I don't like that Fraction seems to bounce between a characterization of Tony that hasn't been true for years and a characterization of Tony that is pretty damn true to everything that's been going on.

And I don't like that the Tony in Fraction's run doesn't seem to be the Tony that cried at Steve Rogers side and said 'it wasn't worth it'. And I am a bit bitter that THOR was the one that remembered the anniversary of Steve's death but we got nothing about Tony's thoughts and actions on that day

Re: Nope, afraid not...

[identity profile] dorcas-gustine.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
YES YES!

YES TO EVERYTHING YOU SAID!

I liked Extremis as well, but I could stand for it getting ret-conned. (Although, COMPUTER BRAIN!) The only thing I don't understand is why Tony needs to erase all of his brain, when with all the hi-tech stuff he seems to have in that facility he could probably access his brain remotely )so-to-speak) and erase stuff bit by bit. Or build an anti-virus software. I mean, he could go to Reed, couldn't he? The Skrulls managed all the science stuff thanks to Skrull!Reed, so it stands to reason that Reed could reverse the process.

Also, Pepper has an arc reactor now. Um, yeah?

Pepper has seemingly forgotten her late husband and her adopted children
It's strange because when IIM and IM: DoS were published at the same time it felt like IIM was outside continuity, or part of some distant future anyway. I don't know, I don't know.

And I don't like that the Tony in Fraction's run doesn't seem to be the Tony that cried at Steve Rogers side and said 'it wasn't worth it'. And I am a bit bitter that THOR was the one that remembered the anniversary of Steve's death but we got nothing about Tony's thoughts and actions on that day
SO SO BITTER!

AND THE UGLY ART, REALLY! DON'T LET ME START ON THE ART!

In conclusion: not liking this very much, although I'll probably stick with it to see where it goes it's not like I'm wasting money on it, anyway. MA is the way to go! (And Avengers/Invaders because I still haven't figured out where they're going!)

Although I liked IIM#7. (Was it #7? The one with Spidey I mean).

EDIT: There're some good ideas, though. Maybe if we cut/paste them to create a good, believable Tony?

Word. At this point, it's going to take something truly drastic on par with the Heroes Reborn reboot just to salvage the mess that's been made of the title, and of Tony (and of the entire Marvel U, really).

Basically everything you said, especially the shit with Extremis, which I am STILL unclear on btw.

Is Extremis out or is it just his armor interface that's out? DAMN IT FRACTION STOP SUCKING

Warning: Bitter Iron Man & Avengers Fan is Bitter

He lost me with the characterization in the first few issues, especially on Pepper, and the fact that it felt so totally divorced from what was going on in the Knaufs' title, the Avengers titles, and Captain America - everywhere else in the Marvel U, Tony was barely holding it together on the verge of a nervous breakdown, and yet when Fraction was writing him in the first few issues, it was like a flashback to 1989 and irresponsible playboy Tony. The re-hashed 90's-style plot (complete with l33t haxx0r-Sue villain) didn't help either (plus, I wasn't a fan of The Order, either, aside from the amusement value of making Tony's bisexuality almost-canon). IMO, Ellis's Extremis arc, and the Knauf's Execute Program storyline and run on Director of Shield are much better (I loved what they did with Maya Hansen and the Mandarin). I'd love to see Mike Grell, Kurt Busiek, or Frank Tieri come back to the title, or see what Fred van Lente could do with it.

Maybe if [livejournal.com profile] crimsonquills or someone else who's got some of the same issue with it that I have tells me that it's gotten better, I'll pick it up, but as it is I've basically decided to wait until Marvel brings Steve Rogers back from the dead and then catch up on everything in trade. Until then, fuck them.

In my most self-indulgeant dreams, they hire Geoff Jones back from DC and put him on the Avengers title, or even better, Kurt Busiek again, and they bring back Jan Van Dyne, too, and de-crazify Wanda, and re-unite the classic Avengers team, but I suspect that (and probably resurrecting Steve, too, unfortunately, until & unless the current creative line-up is ever replaced) is about as likely as Tony & Steve making out on-panel.

It was too good to be true yes, but the real question is... do we care? :D

Amazing crack plotbunnies have been released! Feed them feed them!

Re: Nope, afraid not...

[identity profile] greboguru.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the continuity involved in Tony donning this previous armor -- since the Extremis armor is no longer viable, the Prometheum armor was self-destructed, and the SKIN armor proved unusable, this was the natural choice. Very cool. Go go gadjet Fraction!

Re: Nope, afraid not...

[identity profile] elspethdixon.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
No, we do not. We want fanfic where the Living Armor sexes up Namor to try and make Tony jealous! It would probably be better than canon, and even if not, would certainly be a lot more fun *grins*

Re: Nope, afraid not...

[identity profile] dorcas-gustine.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Or fights Namor because nobody can beat up its boyfriend except it!

Re: Nope, afraid not...

[identity profile] elspethdixon.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
How could you let him touch you like that, Tony? How? I'll make sure he never touches you again!

Re: Nope, afraid not...

[identity profile] dorcas-gustine.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
And Tony would be like, "I didn't let him-" *blinks* "You know who else touched me and was totally a shit? Norman Osborn."

And the Armor would go all Wounded Honour and Rightful Vengeance on Osborn's ass.

And thus endeth Dark Reign. Amen.

Machiavellian!Tony FTW!

The sheer awesomeness of that concept might actually induce me to spend money on a comic other than Marvel Adventures again.
