yes, it's young Tony Stark

But Ultimate Iron Man came after The Ultimates so when reading some of the canon doesn't make sense.

For instance, in Ultimates, Tony Stark says that he made his first million and did something for his mother (I'm at work, so I cannot remember for the life of me what he did). But in Ult Iron Man, Maria Stark died at childbirth. The closet thing to his 'mother' would have been that Chinese scientist, who was the assistant to Howard Stark in Scott Card's visioning.

So, while Orson Scott Card is doing his thing, his vision to the character came much later, after Millar got the Ultimates verse up and running.

I tend to borrow certain things from Orson Scott Card's run and ignore others. So, Tony's warm but exasperating relatinoship with his dad? Check. Tony's strange body? Until I see Millar or Loeb reference that, I'm going to take a pass, especially since the Ultimates verse is supposed to be non cracky (brb, dying from the LOL).

Right, back to gallery work. What.

Oh, I get it know. Yeah, I had a feeling they were disregarding that. I mean, you've got a character (who is not Wolverine) who can regrow limbs? It was actually quite strange that they didn't take advantage of it. But yeah, the crack factor would be so high! LOL! "I lost my finger! Nobody move or you'll step on it! Has anyone seen my finger lying around?"

Tony bought his mother a penthouse thingy with the first million he ever made :D (i just read that like last week, while re-reading Ultimates)

Yeah, but in Ult Iron Man his mum died in childbirth!

So that doesn't compute, you know? So which canon do we follow?

Well maybe Tony Stark's all Norman Bates and bought his dead mother a penthouse and installed her in it?

Actually

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Jarvis made a snark along those lines in teh first Ultimates. When Steve and Thor visit Tony in his Park Avenue Penthouse, Jarvis makes a crack about Tony still keeping his mother's clothing. It sounded sinister. I don't know if it's because of Jarvis being Jarvis, or if it's one of the reasons why Tony was writing him checks (as hinted at the butlers' dinner) but alas, Jarvis died before all was revealed.

I loved that bitchy old man.

*blink*

So we're saying there's a certain amount of canonical evidence for the hypothesis that Tony dressed up in his dead mother's clothes and murdered people?

Oh comics.

murdered people? what?
I thought that the purple robe thing that he wore was his dead mothers.... thats what i gathered form that line anyway.. oh i loved jarvis

hmmmm, maybe tony bought the house as sort of a sentimental thing like he bought it for his dead mother.... or did howard get married again aftarwards?

No, Howard Stark didn't

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2009-03-20 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
He had a Chinese assistant called Sun Mi (I think?) . She was definitely his right hand woman, and a presence in Tony Stark's life from childhood to adolescence, but there's no mother son vibe, no. I liked her, because she was no nonsense, and when she first saw infant Tony, she's like, "I hope you aren't giving him to me? I'm a scientist." LOL.

But from what I gather, Ultimate Iron Man and Ultimates ironman are different canon. So...

Hmmm, i remeber her, its been so long since i read that though DX

Yes i think i'll go with the thing about them being different canon, but then, that again raises the questions "Which canon do we follow?"

Hmmm, I tend to pick and choose

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2009-03-20 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Like, Tony's relationship with his dad? I runs with this.
Tony's regenerating limbs? Until Millar and Loeb or any other Ultimates verse writer makes it canon, I'm ignoring.
I'm torn between Tony drinking due to pain management (re Orson Scott Card) or Tony just drinking because he's depressed and self indulgent (Millar). I go with the latter though, it's more plausible.

So, I just side with the more plausible canon and it's more on the side of Millar than Orson Scot Card. It also doesn't help that Orson Scot Card's Ultimate Iron Man tends to be just like, two trades, with six issues each. It's more like a mini series than an actual comic.

So... go with Millar or Loeb.
