I use HTML - the username code is on everyone's profile page, near the bottom.

So generally you copy the LJ code from a random DW profile, then switch in the correct LJ user names?

I usually just click through to the profile of the user and copy the code there to use. That lets you link to DW users in posts on DW and elsewhere. If you want to link to LJ on DW, it's [user name=valtyr site=livejournal] with the pointy brackets instead of square.

Yes, I've had no problems linking to DW Users in either newsletter. What's giving me trouble is linking to LJ users in the DW newsletter. I use HTML for the LJ newsletter, but I don't know the DW code off the top of my head, so I was switching back and forth between rich text and HTML, getting more and more frustrated as their 'off site user' code failed.

This is what DW profiles have for off-site user code. I didn't realize that there was a short cut for LJ.

That coding is for linking to Dreamwidth users when posting on other sites. You wouldn't use it on Dreamwidth itself. Is that where the confusion is? Sorry if I'm getting you wrong!

No, sorry, I'm confusing myself. The code I've been using is the code the rich text editor provides. I got the above code from the profile pages, which I was looking at because I thought maybe I'd missed something there when you mentioned them, and then my brain switched everything up.

The rich text code for off-site users is, however, much longer than what you provided also - it contains the actual image and link codes.

I would advise sticking to html - you may find the help page with coding for LJ users useful? apparently rich text is temperamental.

Thanks. It was always my intention to use HTML on the DW newsletter; I was only in rich text editor to link to LJ Users, then switch back to grab the code.

It didn't occur to me that the code provided would be vastly different from the functional code they provide on that help page.

I suppose I'd better report this somewhere. It seems like an easy bug to fix.

Yeah, sounds pretty weird! Rich text is a warren of confusion.
