Does anyone remember some fic where Tony and Steve were going to have sex, and then Steve said that they hadn't even been on a date yet, but Tony said that since they had already been on a lot of "dates" as friends? It's something like that. I've been looking all over and I can't find it.

Maybe it's "Collision" by Macx. Is it a movie based fanfic?

The basic premise is Tony falling for Steve and the main turning point is when Tony overloads the replusars and nearly kills himself for Steve. Steve has a panic attack when Tony says it was better for him to die because Steve is needed. They end up together after much convincing on Steve's part. Then came the part that seems very similar to what you described.
