Thanks to 4Chan, every time I read about awkward exchanges between Steve and Tony when he didn't know Tony was inside the armour, I picture the two of them having sex, while Tony has a bucket on his head.

616 canon: Tony had a portrait of Steve as Captain America, hanging high over the fireplace, in what was originally going to be his private quarters in Stark Tower.

My interpretation of canon is that Steve totally feels that it is hot, even if he thinks he shouldn't, and that he needs Tony to disagree with him.
