[Fic] Possible Futures
Right, I suppose that as a dedicated lurker I should have a bit more to say than I actually do. Instead I'll just leave my first fic for these guys here.
Title: Possible Futures
Author:
fairady
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Tony x Steve
Word Count: 398
Beta: None.
Warnings: None.
Notes: Response for this prompt at
comment_fic. Requested by
measuringlife who also provided the line I'm using for the LJ cut.
Summary: “Do you know we’re married in another universe?”
~
Tony stared into his cup of coffee. It was cold and leaning more toward being a solid than a liquid, but he was almost certain it wasn't laced with anything. He put the cup back down on the table again, just in case, before looking up, "What?"
Steve shrugged and kept eating his Jarvis disdained bowl of mac and cheese. "The other me mentioned it before we left."
Huh, so that's what the Steve's had been talking about. Tony had wondered about that, because Steve had seemed a little distracted ever since. Well, now he knew why. It wasn't every day that you're confronted with the fact that in an alternate universe that --that in all other respects was exactly the same as their own-- you were married to your best friend.
"Oh," Tony was having a hard time coming up with something to say to that. Anything else besides calling the other Tony a lucky bastard that is. It was going to take him at least a few hours to adjust to the fact that in an alternate universe he was that lucky.
Or longer, Tony frowned and picked his coffee back up. He was still several pots short of his usual caffeinated level. Why did Steve have to tell him this now?
Steve had already had the time to process the, no doubt strange, announcement. Steve seemed to think nothing of it. Steve was giving his bowl of food a lot more attention than it warranted.
Tony blinked and looked at his friend more closely.
Steve, apparently, still only had a passing acquaintance with subterfuge. With his head tiled down like that it was hard to see his face, but it was easy to see that his ears were flushed red. His eyes were fixed to the left, just enough to keep Tony in his peripheral vision. He wasn't even really eating, just pushing the food around with a spoon that looked a little warped the closer Tony looked at it.
Maybe. Just maybe.
Tony took a gamble. He stretched out, sinking lower in the chair which brought him close enough to prop one foot up on Steve's closest knee. He waited until Steve looked up --looked at him-- to ask, "Were we happy?"
"Yes," Steve's eyes flickered, looking for something in Tony's face, and apparently finding it. He smiled and one hand dropped down to cover Tony's foot. "Yes, we were very happy."

Oh, guys. I love you both.
This is great. I really like the way the two of them dance around each other a little bit, and how it takes Tony longer to catch on than normal because he's decaffeinated. /highfive for delurking!

Which just validates my excuse for loving the thought of grumpy pre-morning coffee Tony.I'm glad you liked it, and I am going to try not to slide back into the shadows of lurkerdom.

I want you to know OP that not only does this please me, but you are enabling me even further to write terrible terrible fanfics of my own. >_> You have been warned.

More fanfic? You say that as if it should be a bad thing. XD

It's a fanfic full of a terrible crossover between Earth 616 and Earth 3490 so... not sure how that's gonna go. XD
