So what do we think? Is it for real this time?

Not getting my hopes up. =.=

Although bringing Cap back to clean up Dark Reign would be beautiful, poetic justice: the old school idealist fixing all this grim-and-gritty BS.

I just hope they don't kill off Tony in the process. D:

MY THOUGHTS

"[Captain America] at heart is a bit of an old-fashioned guy - he looks like Brad Pitt, but smells like your granddad."

smells like your granddad

I know lots of people (including me) have been saying that they'll probably bring him back to finish off Dark Reign. Comics are pretty predictable, so that will probably be what happens.

If they kill off Tony I think I'll just stop caring about comics at all *sobs* All the abuse they already put him through is too much.

[identity profile] jwaneeta.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Tony will get a martyrdom, I think, but that doesn't mean permanent death. Tony's died and come back in canon more than anyone except Phoenix. ;)

As for Cap... I hope this is it. Please let this be it.

[identity profile] lilpocketninja.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
He'll be back for Iron Man 2, at least.

Tony is my favorite character in comics, but I would honestly prefer his dying (as long as they don't let anyone but Rhodey wear his armor afterwards. Rhodey's earned it. No one else has.) to what Fraction's doing with him now (the erasing brain thing) -- only please, let it be a quick, blaze-of-glory death and not the brain melting carried to it's logical conclusion.

Much as I love him, his death isn't going to leave a gaping hole in the soul of the Marvel U the way Steve being gone does.

I'm trying very hard to be optimistic, but Marvel makes it difficult.

Also, if they bring back Steve and kill off Tony, I'm never touching a comic book again, I swear. :-(

[identity profile] melisus.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll believe it when I see it. Either this is an alternate universe Steve (since alternate universe Bucky is going to be making an appearance) or the stuff with crazy 1950's Cap is finally coming to a head.

[identity profile] neptunedream.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, it's interesting because although it's so awesome that Steve will be coming back, the circumstances under which it's happening and the reactions of the 616 are still something to be concerned about, I think. I'm hoping something along the lines of "HOLY SHIT REAL CAP JUST CUT OFF OSBORN'S HEAD WITH HIS SHIELD" will happen, but I've lost so much faith in Marvel at this point.

As for Tony? Hmm. I think a situation like this would only emphasize the "star-crossed lovers" theme going on with us in the community. And as for canon, I have no clue, and I remain anxious and sickeningly intrigued.

Let's hope they handle this properly.

To paraphrase my comment at SD: I have a bad feeling about this. I mean, I like Brubaker, so I'm trying to keep my hopes up, but I'm fairly sure it'll either be a fakeout, or they'll utterly fuck this up and infect him with the same amount of writer-suck that's happened to the rest of the universe.

Sigh. Yeah. I figure this has about a five percent chance of being awesome, where Cap returns and is part of doing away with Dark Reign, Cap and Tony make up and come to a non-morally compromising agreement about powers.

A fifty percent chance it's basically so that Steve can show up, angst over several issues, and finally say "gosh, maybe Sally's right! Maybe I'm *not* the right Captain America for today, obviously Bucky is, and wanders off to retired oblivion, er "finding himself" (well, until someone invariably wants to write him again.) Brubaker is pretty much in love with his own character, so the final capstone for him would be Steve Rogers himself saying Bucky's a better Captain America than he is.

And another 45 percent that is various ranges of "meh" and suck (I noticed that Brubaker was very careful to depower Steve after his 'death' so there's a chance we might get a rehash of Millar's original ending of Civil War.)

But for now, I'll just do a dreamy sigh at the art.

Cropped like that, the light appears to be radiating from his groin.

This isn't a complaint; just an observation.

Well, yeah

As long as they don't kill Tony, and attempt to fix the rest of the 616 I'm happy about this. I am way behind on a lot of comics right now, has the art got any better on Invincible Iron Man?
ext_18328: (Default)

NO! It hasn't!

Just off the top of my head, I can think of a lot of ways that could have been a carefully-designed fake-out. "It was all a dream" or "LOL, AU" being the two easiest (and thus, most likely to be made of fail).

[identity profile] posyvanilla.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
YES! I just saw this linked on a different forum and came over here to check and see if anybody had posted about this yet (this forum, which shall remain nameless, consisted mostly of people going "wtf that sucks" and pretty much just kept harshing my squee).

I will pitch a fit and throw things if they have to kill off Tony to make this happen, though.

I kind of want to see it happen like this:

I just saw the very same thing on my Yahoo! account, and my first thought was, "Geez, I'd better log in and watch my flist explode use it as an excuse to see pictures of Cap looking muscular and heroic see what folks are thinking."

Also, I can't decide if the dog on the right of the image is cute or scary. I think it's the eyebrows.

I'm glad to here that Captain America will be back to life in his own book, but what's going to happen when he hears everyone is blaming Tony for killing him? How can it be that Marvel has managed to make Steve coming back to life bad news. Why Marvel why?

[identity profile] cat-13145.livejournal.com 2009-06-16 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
Providing they don't kill anyone else off, and give Bucky his own series, I'm cool with this. Also get rid of Osborne and make it stick this time, please!!!

It is now on the BBC website, so it must be true!
